Bashsea Bio Space Reactors - Everything you need to know!

I’ve had my 6-3 Biospace Reactor up and running since May on a 200 gallon system (150g display + 50g sump) and frankly I’m unimpressed.

1. Tanks ability to process bioload seems unaffected.

2. The media can backflow into the input line. I realize it’s meant to be run continuously, but things turn off occasionally, and this would have been such a trivial fix from the factory. This wouldn’t be such a big deal except the media gets clogged in the lines changing the flow.

3. The water level inside seems to fluctuate between a 0.5” and 3” air gap at the top. Does this matter? No clue because….

4. The complete lack of documentation from Bashsea. Nothing in the box, nothing on their site, nothing available from their support if you email them besides being told it’s plug and play. Hell, their site still doesn’t even list this thing as something they sell.

I should have listened to those calling this thing snack oil instead of letting my love for shiny new things win 😂

Thanks for sharing! I might have to send mine back and try the 6-1.

Love my reactor so much, I bought their skimmer and pellet reactor. Great products well made

This is start-up at 400gph. You can see even with higher flow it gets pushed down and won’t spin at the bottom. Seems around 130 seems to keep it suspended but then the top doesn’t spin enough and starts to bind up.

Anyone with the 6in models have actual metered GPH evidence?

Maybe a stupid question, as far as order of plumbing is concerned, could I plumb this into the exit of my UV line?

So it would run through my UV then to a BioSpace reactor then to my return. Or would the UV defeat the purpose and bacteria wouldn’t grow? Thanks

Hello all,

So after reading the entire thread looks like the feedback is pretty negative? waist of money?

thanks

Did you ever get this to work properly? How has your experience been so far?

Thanks

I ended up returning it. A month of trying to get it to work properly just was not worth it. Too many flaws and extremely cheaply made, it's just a $0.10 printed nozzle and ran in reverse, no real fabrication so the same thing can be done with any reactor. A 6in model would have less problems but its still the same cheap nozzle design and pipes to cause stuck K1 media. Instead I purchased one from China and wow instantly it has been running perfect with the same and less water pressure as the lid is engineered to create a vortex and no pipe down the middle. I'll post up the video of the new one.

This is the new one and it works perfectly. Actual engineered lid to create the vortex allowing a far reduced flow and no interference inside the reactor to create blockage of the media. I will be posting the findings and comparisons soon.

Thats a really good question, I would plumb the UV after the reactor, the issue is you will constantly be adjusting the flow to keep the reactor's media from binding up.

The 4in model for sure, but the idea is great. Huge amount of surface area added and I have a BB tank so I am required to have more Surface area available in the sump and this solves that issue perfectly.

Thank you for your input. The video doesn't work. Could you add a link or name of that reactor?

Mine sticks at the top all the time I can pull the hose off and let it drop the media 3 inches then restart and it all spins but once it purges the air it starts clumping. Tried stronger pump etc nothing works design is definitely flawed bought a 6-3 feel like I got taken for 450 dollars where did you buy yours that works?

It’s quite upsetting that the vendor who advertised this reactor all over the internet is now staying silent, doesn't address the issues, or help find solutions.

Honestly, it feels like another expensive “miracle” product that turns out to be a complete waste of money. When a company promotes a product so heavily, I believe it should also take responsibility for helping customers when things go wrong.

Agreed I should not be the one feeling foolish for buying it when it is hawked by just about every outlet except BRS I did not see them hawking that product.

a lot of "in my opinion" tied in with huge claims in the videos at shows. Its his opinion they work great, but in reality, none seem to smash well inside the chamber and that is the entire point.

How can a bio-filter not work? I'm not sure I understand the nature of the complaints? (Curious too cuz I've looked at these a couple times.) It's basically a small Ultima filter...kinda tried-and-true design, but not common in reefing.

Seems like they've started putting more details on the product page:
