The problem with that is we have companies who did one thing really well get into other areas and are now pumping out the next line of junk at premium to expensive prices. Marketing is really working short term.

The only time I feel I’ve wasted money is when I test the water with a new coral like an SPS or LPS and it dies with in a month.

Orbit Marine Led light for my first light on new setup. Worst purchase I've made in the hobby.

I made this mistake as well, and did it before joining R2R. Not sure what I can do with it either, would work great for a FOWLR tank.

Bought a rossmont riser pump thinking I could get their power heads later and add the controller.

The nosiest thing I ever brought into my house by far.

Guess it wasn’t a total waste since I use it now to pump water for water changes but kinda ticked I got it.

I bought one of their combo MH/PC lights years ago.
the ballast for the MH blew in a month but the unit itself was a beast. I swapped the ballasts and ran it for another 2 years. But def wastes money overall!

Marineland Reef light with timer and changed to just as worse- Orbit marine light.
Other would be ZooMed aquarium power center with timer

Same light I purchased in the beginning.....listening to my lfs and before r2r member....lfs “it will grow coral”

I wasted my money today, literally purchased a pc rainbow after already owning a whole colony. The coral can be so elusive.

I bought the Fijicube DIY AIO 55-gallon kit combined with a Tunze 9004 skimmer. With only two chambers, the AIO kit didn't keep the water level constant in the second chamber which made it impossible to tune the Tunze. Biggest waste of money. After 4 months, I gave up, bought a new tank, sump, and a real skimmer. Best decision ever.

Oh, and I have a box full of suction cups if anyone wants one.

Honestly i am not totally ready to say that i wasted my money but im getting there. It was a CO2 scrubber. I dont really feel like it keeps my ph very stable at all but it might be my ph probe which i am looking to replace.
