Hi setting up bean animal for my 50 lowboy tank with Modular marine overflow with 3 1” drains

Since its a shallow tank the drop from overflow to sump is very short so using 45 elbow or pvc going slanted is not an option otherwise I cant use unions or gate valve…gate valve cost me 130$ canadian so expensive.

Is the 90 elbow ok? Will that short drop and the short horizontal and drop again cause any issues for bean animal for noise or flow?

Will it cause any issue to purge air if power failure and to start back up since it’s not straight down or slanted?

All it will do is restrict your flow a little bit… a single 1” full siphon can handle a ton of flow on its own so depending on your return pump it shouldn’t be a issue… unless you run a crazy return with massive flow lol..

No my flow will be like 300gph? Lol but I want to make sure that short drop vertical then a quick 90 then another quick 90 again will cause issues for “bean animal” from purging the air and noise issues

It's fine. I have 90* angles on both my drains. It won't add to the noise and you're already gating the drain so any drop in water speed is irrelevant

I use 2 45 degree ones to make the 90. But It will work either way. It does need more room with the 45's.

Your gate valve will be your best friend against noise… tune it and forget it!

Does this work better?
That will give you more flow since it’s less restrictions for sure! Noise is gonna be the same either way honestly.. the 45’s are also a lot less prone to clog if a snail or something was to ever get in it.. just make sure your drain pipe out of the gate valve is about 1” below the water line in the sump and it will be quiet as can be…

Doesnt matter, both do the same thing. Pipe will be completely filled with water either way.
The 90s definitely helps me have space to do the piping and the gatevalve will be at the end….the 45s makes sure there is no horizontal run and no quick 90 2x but the gate valve is at the very end.

I prefer the 90 obviously is there way I can run both without glueing it to see or will it all fall apart with the water passing in it lol?

You could move your gate valve down to where the union is on your 45° plan to have it at the end. The union does not look like it gains you anything there.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
