As most of us do, we constantly try to manipulate and groom our reefs to suit whatever idea we have in our heads. But as I ogle over my aquarium for the first time in a long time I’m reminded that I really suck at recreating Mother Nature and I should just let her do what she wants to do. If I would’ve purposely positioned these coral in this manner it would’ve failed miserably. The acro which I’ve had for a few years and still don’t know the name was purchased alone on a plug.
On the side of the plug I noticed something odd. At first I thought it was bacterial, then some kind of invasive pest, until I figured out that it was a bailed out polyp of pocillapora that had attached itself there before I bought it. I let it continue to grow on the plug and never fragged it.
I can’t count how many times I said I was going to separate the two corals until I realized that they had come to an agreement. The acro would grow high and the poci would stay low.
Well, I’m glad I didn’t follow my instincts because it’s my favorite portion of the reef. Anybody else have something like this?
