BEAUTIFUL Coral that people HATE!

I probably got two new fireworks clove polyps trying to overtake my SPS while writing this reply..
I got a frag of those a year ago and maybe have 15 polyps now at best… they don’t like high flow of a sps tank lol

I blame high lighting in my tank as I don’t have any algae issues lol.. my tank is set up for sps anything else that survives GREAT! haha! Torches seem to love sps quality water and flow and lighting thou..
I have found a couple (AOI's & scrambled eggs are two I have in high flow and light) that don't grow too fast and actually do well in SPS conditions. Others just don't like the flow and light.

After setting up a tank (IM 150 Ext) a little over a year ago and having reef tanks for over 10 years. I can’t seem to keep sps or lps so aggravation got the best of me, and I decided a softie tank. I have pulsing Xenia, mat GSP, cespitulari, etc. everything has its one rock so that they don’t spread. So far so good. I love the softies. Maybe in a year or two I’ll try sps or lps again.

Sadly there are corals that people hate that are absolutely beautiful!

The hate varies from reefer to reefer and there are many reasons for why some beautiful coral is hated. So let's talk about it!

What coral do you think is BEAUTIFUL but you hate it and why?

My favorite has to be pulsing xenia!

If you have the room GSP can be isolated from taking over. Pulsing Xenia on the other hand doesn't care how you isolate. It will just start showing up all over the tank.

Zoas… they’re annoying and either melt or take over my tank lol..

I agree , they can take over.

I made an island not touching the glass or my two other sections of rock. I did this because the rock in the back full of red zoa started taking over my 75 gallon reef choking out other coral. It happened in a year and was just a few heads on a plug. I was lucky because I had a 120 I was putting together and was able to do this. For reference, the rock there on is almost basketball size

I love me some gsp. Have some in all 3 tanks

I'm also fond of pulsing zenia but it isn't fond of me. This is the same tank as above and zenia is just melting. :crying-face:

Sorry about your xenia! At least the gsp is doing great!

I love my gsp, the color and the flow. It’s been on an island for 3 years and never spread.

The clowns seem to love it too

Ya, my clowns have become gypsies or nomads. For almost 2 years they lived in my duncan and about 6 weeks ago moved into my frogspawn, the coral is ticked off, and then down to the gsp. But they always return to the duncan at some point.

Green star polyps. They have eye popping color and great movement, but they spread too quickly and can take over.
100%

I understand it can be a nuisance to some, but I think it's beautiful. It's the Ivy of the sea!

Sun coral(tubastrea)
Invasive, Aggressive, and non-photosynthetic. Still tempted to put it in my tank :grinning-face-with-sweat:

You never see people with sun coral!

It's not an sps though...

Blue ridge is actually a leather.
Really, Heliopora? im shocked! I didn't think leathers had a skeleton, always assumed it was a SPS
Heliopora are Octocorals, but they are not leathers. Leathers comprise the family Sarcophytidae while Heliopora are in Helioporidae, along with Nanipora.
