Berghia Nudibranchs for the Dreaded Aiptasia Anemone

It was fun to ride along, and to see just how effective these guys are in dealing with a moderately heavy infestation. I know I've got a few appies in my tank, but have so far kept them mostly under control with peppermint shrimp and Aptasia-X. Problem with peppermints is that they'll also dine on things like small rock-flower anemones . . .

That's awesome! I am in the middle of having the exact same experience. Now, I didn't have a major outbreak, at the start I could only see 3 or 4 aiptasia. While I was waiting for my Berghia order, 3 or 4 more popped up. Within the first few days, they had taken care of several and I think there are only 3 left. I would strongly suggest trying undies. Not the cheapest option, but night affective, small enough to get anything hiding in the rocks, and in the end, you didn't have to put anything in your tank you didn't really want to have. What's the procedure with undies? Should they be dirty undies? Bikini briefs would cruel and unusual don't you think?

Definitely dirty. The bacteria will take out the aiptasia in about a day. The odor will lea e the house in a week or so.

I can't thank you guys enough.
It truly meant a lot, that you personally took the time and came aboard my build, and said to "hold the coarse", they will get the last one too.

I wanted to add to the write up one last time, for three reasons.

1) Certain fish species do eat the nudi's, so do your homework and talk to the vendor and give them all your reefs specs.
Including the Pod population in your main display tank.
Pods have been known to consume the egg sacks that are bred and have been left behind, by the adult nudi's.

2) I did see a new batch of nudi hatch-lings last night.
To myself it was like witnessing a double edged sword.
There is nothing left for them to eat / but on the other hand I know that the reef and coral's are aiptasia free.

3) I've said earlier that my reef is aiptasia free, from using the Berghia Nudibranchs. But... I've never took the time to take shots.
So, This is my reef as it is tonight.

I want to apologize again, for the picture quality.


So, Lets get down to business and comb back over the rock work, one last time.

Great post just have a question...what happens when there is no more aptasia to eat? Will they eat other coral? I had a nudi problem eating my coral but I know there are many different species.

Berghia die after the aptasia is gone it is all they eat.

They are considered Reef-Safe.
When they have wiped out your aiptasia, then they will fade away, due to starvation.
