Best glass scraper thoughts?

Sorry I mis spoke mine is 15mm so I guess in between 1/2 and 5/8

My new build is also 15mm. No water in it yet but I'm planning on getting a strong because the max for the long is 12mm.

I dont like the magnetic scrappers if close quarters the rock knocks it off , also almost knocked a rock off once , and stink for corners and bottom. I much prefer my razor blade after wasting my time on those type. Everyone loves to build up Tunze . Great if you like spending money . Mine cost $24 on amazon and came with about 5/6 replacement blades. Also my Tang loves following me around and gobbling up the algae as I scrape it off which is why I am not going to use an Algae scrubber. Its like spending time with the children

The Tunze plastic blades work great if you clean regularly, like every few days. For heavy buildup the ceramic blades from 4D Aquatics work well.

As far as knocking your rocks over, you must have your rocks very close to the glass. I personally build my aquascape with plenty of room around the outside so that I can easily get in there and clean.

I have a 3/4 thick acrylic tank and first started with a flipper max but it didn't hold tigh enough to get coriline off and barely took film algea off so i spent the money on a mighty magnet ff6 and it is a beast holds tight and clears film algea great and the dozer pad removes coraline great as well

My glass is 1/2 inch and Debating between long and strong. Some reviews say definitely get the strong as the long didn’t cut it in the 1/2 inch glass then others say strong is too hard to move. Any thoughts since you have both and 1/2 inch glass?

Id probably go with the stronger one. It takes a bit more elbow grease but not really a problem.

Like almost everything else in this hobby, I like to build my own. This costs nothing, after you buy the magnetic cleaner, and uses a stainless steel blade.
I have been using it or one like it for decades.

Yep Tunze’s website is pretty spot on for size needed per glass thickness. I have just over 15 mil glass and got the strong. Used mag floats for years with no issue until recently when I scratched my front glass, so on this new tank I didn’t want to chance it and got the Tunze. Works great so far. I don’t however like the float part so just took it off of mine. It seems to make it harder to move for me,

I have already posted my preferred cleaner multiple times. But for those that are new. Just be warned the magnetic scrapper is bulky catches on things you cannot do a good job on the part of the glass that is below substrate level that you can see. Also you have to clean it while you are cleaning the glass. Therefore and for other reasons the scrapper pops off and uncontrollably pops to the surface damaging anything it hits. Also you have to have to me 2 minimum inches if you are careful with it to clean around rocks. Hence people like the Tunze ceramic , I DYI one but not a good angle , so i bought one for $20 on amazon which uses razor blades

Agreed on the float. I leave the outside one on and take the inside one off.

This is a good point. On my new build I made sure when making the rock structures to leave~6 inches clearance from the glass. I didn't do this on my current tank and it's a pain

For me magnetically coupled glass cleaners are an improvement on the stick style.

I remember fashioning old credit cards to the handheld scraper to act as a disposable scraping surface... ahh the memories.

I guess there's a place for them. If I ran a small tank and was able to stand above the tank, a handheld scraper would be a choice to consider.

For me the ease of having the Tunze scraper with the 4D Aquatics ceramic blade adapters in the water, ready to go at all times is just a convenience thing. Knowing that nothing is going to rust and having that sharp ceramic blade that cuts through even coralline algae like butter seems to be "the next level"... for me anyway.

I will look at that. I as I have said before am mad at my Bully Tang as it killed my shifting Gobby but I like feeding it the algae I scrape off the glass . I follows me around and even the watchman goby will eat a bit so just don't like the magnet ones as I said too many negatives

That's always a treat to watch fish behavior when doing maintenance. Especially when they take interest in what you're doing as it has a benefit to them.
