Best Hannas?

Hi all!

Looking to order some Hanna test kits. Wondering which ones are must haves?

My goal is fish, corals (probably zoas to start) and an anemone. I know there are a ton out there and even the 500 dollar master test kits. Thanks!

Alk, phosphate and hr nitrate is what i use

Specifically the ULR phosphate. Ie Ultra Low Range since we hopefully want to measure less than 1ppm.

I second ULR Phosphate. It's the only one I really care for.

The alkalinity reagent goes bad fast once opened in my experience and then shows too low values. A titration test like Salifert does the trick very well.

The Nitrate test takes too long in my opinion and isn't really an important measure to me. The target range for nitrate is huge and I'm dosing ammonia anyway to maintain a steady nitrogen supply and keep the system from bottoming out nitrate.

I rarely test Calcium and if I do salifert is enough and quick.

In addition to ulr phosphate, hr nitrate, and alkalinity, I think the copper checker is critical if your are quarantining or medicating with copper.

Phosphorous ULR. That is it.

They have jacked the prices so high on them none of the others are worth it. Salifert for alkalinity and nitrate is a far better choice IMO

FWIW, Hanna Phosphate ULR, Alkalinity dKH, and Nitrate HR are all worth it to me, personally.

I use ULR phosphate, high range nitrate and alkalinity. I prefer the digital read out vs color changing test but I do use a salifert test for calcium every few months.
Personally I've never had a bottle of hanna alk reagent go bad in 7-8 years using the tester. I refrigerate it and shake the bottle before each use. When my bottle of alk reagent is almost empty I test then test with the new bottle to check for inconsistencies and they have never been more than 0.2 dkH difference between the two.

I use them for everything, but I'm not liking the magnesium tester. While it is consistent, it always reads about 200-250ppm higher than what the ICP tests come back.

Not the CA or MG tester.
Sample size is too too small for a consistent result.
ULR is fab.
ALK is fast.

Yes, color blind is another factor but I assume most should mention that in the OP if it is a factor

Thanks, I have seen two threads on the topic recently but didn't manage to verify if any special treatment resolves the issue I had with aging reagents.
