I know it's been discussed on numerous pages, but want to describe my situation and see if someone can shed some light.

Read in numerous forums to dose Alk at night, so I changed to evening dosing for parts 3a,b.

Before dosing alk 5ml a day during daytime, my alk readings throughout the entire day were between 7.8 and 7.95
Immediately dosing alk 5ml at night, my readings went up to 8.3 - 8.45 daily.

I then start dropping the dose of 3a,b daily starting 1ml at a time waiting a few days in between dropping again. Last night dosing 2ml, alk raised from 8.32 6PM - 8.49 12AM.
These measurements were taken from the trident and also hanna checker.
Can someone shed some light why it was such a drastic change in Alk when even dosing less, and how to get back under 8 dkh?

Ca staying steady at 440 dosing equal parts
Mag staying staying at 1220 dosing equal parts

I dose core7 evenly thru 24 hours. Changes in alkalinity causes STN & RTN in acropora.
I tired this as well
Days 1-3 dosed 5ml in evening - Alk raised mainly at night
Days 4-6 dosed evening across day/night alk continued to raise
Days 7-9 reduced 4ml a day dosing 1ml every 6 hours
Days 10-12 - 3ml, 2ml day, 1 ml night still raises
and so on down to 2ml, one day, one night alk still rising

doesn't make sense to me....

I don’t have a trident, but have an Alkatronic and test alk 8 times a day. I only dose while my lights are on as that’s when my tank uses alk. Does the trident have an option to create a dosing schedule?

Dosing alk (like at night) while nothing is using it will cause it to rise. I think that advice started as a way to raise pH when only manual alk tests existed.

I guess if it were me I would go back to the way you were dosing.
Before I decide to make changes I observe and decide if I need to.
I ask do I have an issue that needs addressing.
In this case I think you may want to change something that does not need to be.
The result of the change caused unstable alk. So I dont see the benefit.

Yes I have read the theorys about dosing at different times and such.
The more food on the table when things are hungry so to speak.
But in my mind the livestock is going to consume what it can.
If the food was lacking well thats different as it cant consume whats not there.

Yes, there is an anomaly in the beginning. Suddenly a big uptake then settles down.
