Tanks been doing well lately. Sps frags are really starting to grow well. And then....
Last night i refilled the topoff water/kalk and didnt notice the snail that was on the float switch. The whole gallon mixture pumped in. Going to check salinity and alk to figure out how to correct

On my 3rd try I finally got a good hatch of brine shrimp eggs and my Mandarin loves them. He will not eat them in open water so I have to squirt them on the rocks and substrate so he can hunt them himself. If anyone is interested in hatching, or has had issues before here is the steps that worked for me even though my temp was only 78 degrees.

After all the work of hatching brine every other day, and building a Mandarin feeder my picky eater decided he really doesn't want baby brine. He will eat a few, but generally leaves it alone. However, thanks to @Paul B , I fed white worms to him last night and the Mandarin chowed them down like a huge porterhouse. Thank you Paul, your informative posts saved my Mandarin!

What worms exactly did you use?

The white worms are working so well to feed the Mandarin that I ordered a second starter culture. I am going to run 2 cultures like I do for phytoplankton. The white worms are said to live for days in saltwater, and so I am planning a feeder that would allow the Mandarin to pick at worms all day.

My skimmer pump gave up the ghost. It was old enough to drink, so I got my monies worth. I was searching for a decent skimmer pump, but most do not come with the venturi adapter. I picked up this eshopps psk75 in clean, like new condition for $25 from FB. It didnt fit the stand, but i was able to adapt the output to my old cpr backpack skimmer and its working like a charm.

You all know that I have been fighting gha and cyano since the dinos got exterminated. I have been perplexed as to why when my nutrients remain low. I have been listening to lots of Melevs reef, BRS, and Reef News Network while at work and think I may have an answer. I think that a low population of beneficial bacteria and a 12.5 hour light cycle may be the reason. I have been alternating 3 different bacteria a week and changed my light cycle today to an 8 hour total cycle. I raised the blue channel a little to provide 150 par at top of rock and 100 at sand. The white provides 250 par at top of rock. This gives about 350 to 400 par at my sps area for 4 hours midday. I am hoping that this will help my new acro frags feel more at home and lower my nuisance algae.

It was an exciting night for my reef. I tought the Mandarin to eat extra small TDO pellets. He has been com8ng right up to the feeding tube for his white worms so I decided to try the pellets. I mixed them into tank water, sucked them into the feeder and gave him a few to try. He waited until they hit the sand and then would swim over them to make them move and gobbled the pellets down. I am super stoked to know that he will eat a regular pellet. I am not going to stop feeding the white worms as the whole tank loves them.

I bought a blue Oregon tort frag 3 weeks ago, and it has yet to extend its polyps. My other, easy, sps are doing great. Should I be worried? Is there something this acro wants that the monti, digi, and stylo dont care about?

Heres the Mandarin already putting on weight from the white worms and TDO pellets. Big thanks to @Reef Nutrition for the extra small high quality pellets. This fish was so skinny and pale soon after I got it. It is definitely getting good color and getting chunky.
