Hi everyone . I purchased this Biota Blue Tang . I know it says they come with blemishes , but I was wondering if this one has Ich or something else . I did FW dip when I first got him . He’s been in QT for 5 days now . I did slow ramp up to Copperpower . Now sitting at 2.5 . He seems to be getting more white spots , he’s eating great and swimming fine . I had QT tank set up a month before receiving him , using bio balls from my DT and microbater . I tried searching the forums and I know blue tangs are known for ICH . But I was wondering if it’s blemishes i didn’t notice when I first recieved him or does he have ich

This fish seems to have a reaction from Skin irritation. Do not do a FW dip in future as it is a tool for flukes offering temporary relief and not a cure. Also Do not ramp up copper as it allows a given disease to take hold of the fish
Lower (which you can do quickly) the coppersafe level to 2.15 - 2.25. The 2.25 level may be contributing to this irritation. Fish seems active and if eating and breathing norma, maintain that lower level and look for improvement and not increase in marks the fish now has

I can't quite tell where the white spots are, but he needs a pipe in there or somewhere to hide or it will stress out.

The spots are on his body and his top fin ..
He has a pipe on the other side . He just chooses to stay back on that side for some reason

Ok . I read that 2.5 was a good level but I will try lowering it . Thank you

It appears to be exhibiting "flashing" behavior, trying to scrape off the irritant.

2.5 is at the top of the therapeutic level. That’s what the maker is copper power recommends.

I did some more recent testing using a spectrophotometer, and found that the dose as directed on the bottle comes out to around 2.25 ppm. Earlier testing had shown 2.5, so if you read my earlier posts, I would suggest that. I only go that high for really active infections now.

Thank you ! Am in the process of mixing some new salt to lower now . I am going mix up a gallon of salt water at 2.0ppm copper , , remove a gallon of the QT water and add this in

So hopefully they are doing better since last update . Reason I asked is usually the breeding facility maintain strict QT procedures and maintain their fish stock as parasite free to the best of their abilities . It’s the middlemen that do not. So whoever the secondary source is . That may be the weak link .
