So I've limited to 3 sps in my nank. Currently I have a forest fire digi. Any experience in birds nest and the care and placement for them?

In addition to the blog quoted above, I find detritus and algae can get caught up in them. So, they need medium flow along with occasional turkey baster type help from me to keep algae from forming. Also, when I accidentally break pieces off, they are very easy to frag.

I keep my two birsdnest corals in med/high light and med/high flow.
They aren't getting quite as much light and flow as my acropora frags, but they're close.

I'm sure the attached article probably goes into way more detail, but that is what mine have had success with.

Do you find that they are as hardy as every place says they are? They say good beginner coral.....

I think they're a good beginner sps coral, but IMO they're not as hardy as most of what I think of as beginner corals (gsp, leathers, xenia, etc).

Although I've never managed to kill one and for me that is saying something. I also have a bad habit of somehow only killing expensive corals and with it being cheap they do fine in my tank.

If you don't have the correct par then any beginner coral will fail. Try to find a local shop that rents par meters. It's worth it to know instead of guessing you have enough. I was guessing for years and my softies were fine but every time I tried a sps they died after a couple months. Rented a par meter and was way too low. Even at the highest point on my rocks.

I plan to buy one. Someone made a post and rough estimate would be 200 par
Birdsnest Coral requires moderate to high water flow and bright lighting (PAR 300-450) to maintain its color. T5's, Metal Halides, or LED's can all grow Birdsnest Coral when the proper PAR levels are provided

You could say I've got a birdsnest dominate reef lol. Some of the colors browned after getting them but they are all turning around fast. These are not difficult in my opinion.

I've got 2 Nero 3s ramping from 70-100%randomly and a radion xr15 g5 for lighting.

-Pink birdsnest colony w a pair of acropora crabs
-Ora neon birdsnest
-Green birdsnest
-sour apple birdsnest
-wwc may verde

With birdsnest you have to be careful of the type - there are green ones that prefer LOW light. Pink ones I think are the ones that like high light.

I got a green one and put it in high flow and 250 PAR and it bleached to complete white over night. I moved it all the way down to the bottom half shaded 80PAR and over the last 4 month it slowly getting back its green color. See the three pics below. Right after I got it, right after it bleached, and now

I have mine at the bottom of the upper third of the tank if that makes sense.
