I've been noticing birds frequently visiting my water change dumping area.

The area is along a fence for weed control. I live in springfeild Il. Are the birds going after the minerals from the salt?

Maybe going for the bugs coming up from the soil ‍ or scent. Might smell like fish

Probably the salt. Salt is hard to come across in the wild
