Black spots on stylophora

Any thoughts on what these black spots are? They are definitely multiplying...getting worse each day. This is my first attempt at a qt for corals. It would be nice to know if I caught a problem or if my noob attempt at qt caused it. Thanks for any help.

From the picture, I see two possibilities. 1. The polyps are retracted and the shading/lighting makes them darker giving an illusion of black dots (see the top "dots" and their dark purple color) or, 2) the polyps bailed due to conditions they dislike.
