Black Widow Anemones with other BTA

Hi all,

I’m having difficulty finding out the legitimacy of claims around housing black widow anemones. Are they safe to be kept in the same tank as other BTAs?

Black window is of the same family as the bubble tip anemone. So Treat it the same.

I have read about what you are referring to. There is a specific FB group that like to promote the idea that "high end" and some other bta's do not do well with others, especially wild caught. The theory is that there may be slight bacterial/chemical differences between the bta strains but nothing definitive has been found out.

I personally have never kept a "high end" anemone so I have no first-hand experience in the matter. I have however read many cases where it seems mixing certain bta "strains" does cause one or both of them to go downhill, especially in a propagation tank where they are being manually divided.

Any input on this @davocean @reef lover @Amoo?

I have yet to see this happen but i always run carbon and chemi pure...i own bw , sherman, rosies ,rainbows and a few wild caughts i got from that fb group...but if i spent the $ for a sunburst i might house it seperately just in case..;)

I was under the impression that chemi pure and carbon are basically the same thing. Is there something different about them? Also how often do you change out the carbon and cp?

Good to hear, picked up a Black Widow recently. Decided that I wanted to move towards more nems have a Sherman and Acid on the way...

Of course, joined the FB group I believe we are all referring to a few days ago and got worried. Not once before had I heard BTAs having issues with BTAs. Thanks for all the replies :)

I like the chemi cause it comes in a bag which is useful in my tiny sump and i always thought it removed a larger variety of organics than carbon...i change that once a month.
And because the sump is soooo tiny i use a premade carbon pad in between my chambers that i switch once a week.

I Have had three Black widows in with Rainbows and Rose bubbles for about a year. Each color has split at least once and all seem to be happy. At this time i have a total of 13 nems in my 180 Gal. I gave a rainbow and a rose to a buddy of mine last week or I would have 15.

How long does chemi last? Thinking about setting up a 10g for my bounce. There is too much flow in my DT.
