Alk shoudl be around 8-9 at its best.Corals cant change more than 1-2 points of alk a day,and acropora being a very picky coral will not like 5 at all, that is very bad.

What scale are you measuring alk on,Dkh scale or what?

I keep mine at 8-9 so that it will allow for fluction in a safe zone,it generally stays at 9 so it can fluctuate at least 1 point and I will be safe.

Is that even possible? If your alk is that low,I would think every thing would be dead,no offence,I thin k you probably have a bad test kit,how old it is?Alk test kits dont last as long as other do.

Your test kit might be bad. I've had my alk down to about 5 before when corals were growing like crazy and my calcium reactor couldn't keep up to it. I target my alk around 7 dkh (natural seawater). Main thing with sps is try to keep thing consistent and not fluctuating and more importantly BALANCED. You calcium should be more around 300 if your alk is that low... Try to keep them proportionately balanced.

So just multiply by 2.8 to get your DKH. 4 meq/l x 2.8= 11.2 DKH, not bad but a little high. Just let it come down a bit on it's own.
