blue light only for fish only?

Probably but there’s no problem just running blues. They do need a dark period though

Apparently fish can't see red light, not sure if it is all species or some, but something to keep in mind. This could simulate a dark period but still give you visibility. Do you know what loves red light... Algae.

Had someone argue that fish need "daylight" but i thought a bright 460nm during the "day" would be fine. Just seeing what others think or have experienced.

I never said you were going to run them 24/7. People use just blues later in the evening till night time to mimic moon lighting

Certain species of fish are from deeper water. The blue light mimics depth.

Truth is fish generally don't care much about what light you use (unless you are putting them under a powerful grow light or something like it). This is one of the reasons why FOWLR tanks are recommended to newbies or those with tighter budgets.

I wouldn't think it matters much except to deeper water species. However, I think many fishes colors can look washed out in only blue light especially reds.

Great question! Would love to run blue light instead, especially if it helps keep algae under control, and then just have the whites when I really want to see them. (I work full time and currently have a white light for the freshwater because it is planted. Yup, algae.)

Wait, so for fish only, would they need ANY light? As in could I just have regular room light during the hours I'm at work as long as it isn't dark as night? I have just ambient lighting from windows and patio door, most mornings we don't even need the various house lamps on.
