PH went up as stated previously. I have been able to stabilize ALK at around 8.2 during the day. Other than that no changes other than using the FM traces that come with the system versus AFR.

Thanks. When using AFR, we’re the alk values about the same?

in an earlier post you wrote that you started ammonia dosing two weeks before staring the bolus. i imagine this could be an additional reason for all the new growth.

Possibly although didn't notice much at the time

Possibly a contributor although only dosing 10 ml a day.

I was dosing 10ml of ammonia a day on my 250 and I couldn't believe the growth I was getting at the end. I worte about in Randy's ammonia thread. It was like a jump start to the system

When you can’t beat em, censor em. Sad, but not shocking to see CV and FM go this route

Yes and interestingly am having the same issue with Ca and Mg. Am currently not dosing any of either and numbers are still higher than I would like. Will have ICP results probably by the end of the week so those results should be interesting.

I assume calcium is higher than you’d like, but what’s happening with Mg?

Mg is running at around 1350 to 1375 without any dosing

Great numbers IMO. With the unreliable Mg test kits we have, I always liked keeping Mg higher than NSW simply so I was never guessing with it.

I never dosed Mg directly to my 250. It got some Mg from the Part C and water changes but that's it.

The fact that CoralVue removed the comments and is running cover for Claude (and Doug), Claude’s refusal to stick to facts, and Doug’s petulant responses (lol subliminal msgs :zany-face: :zany-face: :zany-face: ) tell me everything I need to know about both companies and all involved parties.

It’s not just unfortunate, it’s downright shameful. They should all be embarrassed. Sadly if they were capable of that, none of them would behave this way in the first place. Pathetic really.

seems perfect. I would think a little gets consumed. Perhaps it’s being replenished with water changes? Or maybe test error. The ICP will be interesting.

So just for clarification, since you started the FM Balling Light method you have not added any Ca? Calcium part has Trace 1 and 2 so it is interesting that the tank is happy.

Mg I am not surprised, when I used FM Balling system my tank didn’t need it either.

It was trending up after I added S which contained Mg. Or perhaps the other way around Mg mix that contained S.

Out of curiosity how much Alk are you adding each day?

I only looked at their Alk component. If Mag is not part of the system, then where is it coming from. It would be consumed in ratio to calcium.

Maybe Mg kits might be so inaccurate that we cannot see the Mg consumption?

But I would assume Mg is accurate with ICP so it must be coming from somewhere

I can't decide if this is funny or really sad. It's upsetting how much corporations are controlling the conversation of the hobby. The guerilla marketing of many so-called educational podcasts and social media spreading questionable ideas. How fast people are to defend salesman that are vying for their dollar. Instead of looking towards people with extensive education and/or experience on the topic, and nothing to gain. I see this misinformation first hand when I am hired to fix aquariums and people relay to me the ideas and techniques that made it through to them. Brand financed information is most often what makes it through. And if a technique works and hobbyists don't understand why, then it becomes almost superstition and old wives tales spreading around the hobby. I miss the days of books and DIY.

If you do the recommended 20% monthly water changes, things will even out. If not FM has a bottle ready:

It truly isn’t shocking when you know both companies involved though. Neither cease to amaze me with the antics they’ll pull

I believe I read somewhere in their literature that Mg dosing may no be necessary but not sure. I used two different test kits with the same result. ICP should be interesting
