Books to Movies

One of my favorite things as a book lover, is seeing the characters of a book come to life on film! It is rare to hear someone say the movie was better than the book or even as good as. There are a few that I have seen that was better, IMO, and that was The Help and New Moon.


Does anyone else enjoy reading books, and then see them brought to life through film? If so, what are some of your favorites?

Us too Brett. Even though I didn't read the books, we were at the last few opening nights for the films. There were 6 of us (3 couples), all got babysitters and caught the new movies. We are 30 and still enjoyed them, as does my 5 year old.

Yes the Harry Potter ones, out of all the movies I liked the last two the best. Enjoyed New Moon. For some classics some of the Jane Austin storys, Pride and Prejudice (A &E version) there are others just can't think of them right now.

Haha! It don't matter if you're a grown man, I don't know many people who don't like Harry Potter! We went to the midnight showing of the last movie and half the people in the theater was crying. I was like.. "Did I miss something?" Then my sister informed me it was just because it was going to be the last one ever made. I only read the first book. It's hard for me to see the movie, then read the book. Should I go back and read the books? Would it be worth it?

And as far as Jane Austin.. I got on a kick.. I read all her books and then watched every version of every movie made from them.. lol! My favorite would have to be the Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly, though.

And although the movies were not great, Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre are two of my all time favorites!!

I would have too say The Lord of the Rings. To me it was as close to the book as you can get. Cant wait for The Hobbit.

Hunger games was number one IMO, the help was a amazing book to movie as well, I loved it. Personally, that's the only favorites I have read that have gone to movie.

shining, imo, was great. the book scared me though. My imagination was flying when he was peeping through the keyhole of that haunted room.

Never read Lord of the Rings, or never really go into the movies; I might need to check that one out.

I have seen the shining, but haven't read the book. Don't know if my little heart can take it.:squigglemouth:

Don't know if any of you have read the Love Comes Softly series, but I just started and watched the first movie! The book was quite different, but I have to say both were very endearing. This might not be a good read for men, but my husband loved the movie! Definitely tugs at the heart strings!:too_sad:

i didnt read the book for the hunger games, but i really didnt like the movie, it was kinda boring in my mind. Would the book be better.
I have heard mixed reviews on the ending of the 3rd book. Not sure if I would like to read 3 books to be disappointed.

I wasn't thrilled w the hunger games movie adaptation. But the book is definitely worth the read. I read each book in a day and a half. If you like your endings to be happy and tied up neatly in a bow you might be disappointed. But I thought they were great.

I agree the shining was a great book to movie adaptation. I also liked Interview w a Vampire adaptation. Was a little concerned about Tom Cruise as Lestat, but he rocked it.

Anyone here read asoiaf seris (a game of thrones) by George rr Martin the tv show is good but the books r truly amazing when I was reading them it was almost like I was living it George rr martin can't be beat for epic fantasy!

Just finished this series over Spring Break, and have to agree with what was said above. Books are much better than the movie - so much of what is going on is lost in the movie, even though I thought they did a very good job on the movie. However, if you want all your endings happy, then I wouldn't read the book. Personally, I thought it was probably one of the most realistic looks of fantasy/fiction in regards to what the true end story would be of someone who lived through what the characters were supposed to have lived through.

Agree, but I would have to say that is true in almost every case; certainly true with Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, and the Hunger Games. So many of the characters and behind the scenes stories are missing from the movies. However, if you haven't read the books, then you really don't know what you're missing out on.

^ It's true. The narrative alone takes you into the mind of the character. Although Twilight used somewhat of a narrative, it do it justice..
