Didn't do a build thread, but started this current 40g breeder build 4 months ago and thought I would post my progression thus far...This is my second 40g breeder tank..Had one 5 years ago with all HOB equipment and had to tear it down and sell due to a move....This time I knew I wanted to add a sump and built one with a 20g long... Sorry no pictures of the sump build. I was to start this project about 2 years ago and had already drilled my tank and built my own oveSrflow with acrylic, and a Herbie drain with two 3/4 inch returns. The drain pipe is 1 1/4 on main and overflow , wished I had just gone down to 1" but had read some things and never wanted clogging to be a issue a little overkill I know. But has worked out so far... The light system I had from my original 40g was a orbit MH with PC's , found out the replacement bulbs for that fixture are impossible to get now and the one currently in the fixture were getting old. So did some research and went with the OceanRevive T247 been happy with this so far. Anyway on to the picture progression!!
Lumber bought and Stand build begins, had to build it in my back porch , grr I miss my garage.
Sump installed and tested ( Ended up having to rebuild sump/ fuge section to allow for more backflow and flood prevention.) Delayed build by week. But hey that's why we test! Didn't wanna use check valves as have heard a lot about them failing down the road, and I do live in a area prone to storms.
Everything looks good , time to add Salt and Sand! (Powerhead pointed up until sand storm stopped and let everything settle) Cycled with a fish food , adding a pinch a day. Took about 3 weeks for cycle with bacteria boost as well.
TBS live rock ordered and picked up..(I highly recommend if you are needing live rock, lots of life , some nuisance hitchhikers but nothing that cant be handled with a little work.)
Still discovering things everyday with this rock , have banished three unwanted crabs to the fuge so far. Never got a mini cycle after adding rock.
First fish added missbar black ice clowns...and first pieces of coral, hammer and some GSP
My porcelain crab seems to like the new addition
It has been about three weeks since adding fish, all tank parameters are normal so ordered two more fish this week . Coral Beauty Angel and a Blue Dashed Blenny as listed on DD. although looks like a orange spotted blenny..and added a few more corals
Also finally changed out my open 3/4 pvc returns to Locline and removed the marineland powerhead and replaced with a Jebao PP4 , only got one which does have a lot of flow , but thinking I may need to order another to put across from each other, just tone them down for a more even flow across the tank.
