@Jay Hemdal if the store offers to take the fish back and quarantine them with the proper medication while I leave the tank fallow should I do that or should I run Ruby in my display tank knowing that it has a fair amount of live rock and pretty well established bacteria?

It would likely require me to completely take apart the tank to get some of the fish out

How long can you leave your tank fallow? If you can go 6 weeks, you won't need to treat the tank with anything.

***if*** the LFS agrees to re-quarantine I imagine 2 weeks. I cant really afford to have a large enough QT up in the house without irritating the fiancé

That's too short of a fallow period to ensure that obligate fish parasites have all died out. I would not trust Rally Pro to be strong enough to speed that process up all that much

The store is claiming that they did research that suggest that the lifecycle of Brooke is seven days and as such, that’s all that they need to quarantine and go fallow for. For obvious reasons I am skeptic of this and I’ve asked them why they are only doing seven days versus longer. The new employee that took over their quarantine process is actually one of the only ones I trust, but I know he is getting pressure from his supervisors and owner to get their display floor back open.

My other concern is that if I try to set up a quarantine tank, I will inevitably tick off my fiancé who is already an annoyed enough about all the time I’ve been putting into the tank since this issue arose….. she hasn’t married me yet so I still gotta keep her happy lol. What is the shortest quarantine period where the tank is left fallow that you could recommend? Maybe I let the store treat them with the proper medication for one week and then quarantine them in a separate tank at my house for the remainder and just try to beg the fiancé not to hate me?

I’ve also read through some of your other posts where you’ve commented about the treatment for Brook, and noted that you were cautious about formalin inside homes. I currently live in a relatively small townhouse with two dogs, so I’m cautious about that as well

I think 7 days is too short. Brooklynella does have direct development with no resting tomont stage, but I use 14 days. The real issue is misdiagnosis and multiple diseases in play at one time - that’s why I play it safe with a longer fallow period.

Based on what I’ve posted what else do you fear could be involved? I have the scraping on the other clown tmrw but I REALLY don’t want to tear apart the tank:/ obviously if i get a positive Brook ID I will.

I love the aqua scraping and just spent hours testing the PAR readings

It's probably Brook, but it could also be viral, bacterial or coccidia.

Does your guess change with the note that I had lost one of the OG clowns I had added after 12 weeks on cycling. It was in there only 1 month maybe. I had coughed that up to “things” happen. I strongly believe Brook was not at the store when I got it.

Depends - were the symptoms the same?

Sadly, I know this is utterlyuseless, but I have no idea, I didn’t even know it was dead until my fiancé‘s mother pointed it out. Found a few of my cleanup crew munching on it so it likely died while I was at work during the day and we had been out the night before until late so I wasn’t observing my tank as close as I normally do
