I have one clown that is exhibiting rapid breathing behavior, and it was laying around the bottom of the sand. I will say when I try to catch him he did move around, albeit not as well as my other clown. I have a flame, angel, three goalies, and another clown that are not exhibiting any of the typical Brook symptoms. I got this fish from a fish store on January 4, and when I went in this last weekend, they did say that one of their other tanks that this one was not did test positive for brook. They seem like a pretty honest shop, but I’m worried that something may have slipped by. I did a four minute freshwater dip today, and will be getting a skin scrape done on Thursday.

Camera is moving too much to clearly see the fish but at the last 4 seconds I see what may be ich- Not positive, The heavy breathing suggests gill irritation. Need clearer video

Very rapid breathing but hard to see if any symptoms due to white color on fish. You can be proactive with formulin or ruby reef rally pro to be sure the fish is QT properly.

Already in DT. My local store does a three week quarantine so I add one week and then it goes in….. lesson learned here

Always assume fish has something and quarantine yourself, even for 14-21 days. Many stores will quarantine at 1.5ppm which is below level coppersafe begins to work and " Do they actually Qt??
Disease is not the fish's responsibility - but ours

Lesson learned. Doesn’t help my current state though

I don't see the mucus sheets typically seen with Brooklynella. Rapid breathing by itself can be from Amyloodinium (velvet).

The store said they "tested" for Brooklynella? Any idea what they meant by that? There is DNA testing, but that takes weeks/months to do.

One employee there is better than the others and notice the fish “just weren’t right”. They had gone though copper and another form that was too technical for me to understand (sorry). They admitted that upon closer inspection the second QT form had issues, and Brooklynella had made it past based on skin scrapes. Owner pushed the fish out anyway. Initially this led to one system being shut down somewhat quietly. The rest of the systems were “fine” but now based on a call I had, it may have been more widespread. Two customers have reported issues from the other display…I might be the first from the small fish display

What’s odd is my tank had two original clowns for 2 months then one died without warning…this is it’s replacement….ive never lost a fish until these. Every other fish seems (PRAYS) like they they are fine

O.K., if they saw Brook under the microscope, then I'd say that's the issue.

The best treatment for Brook is formalin. However, that is difficult to acquire and has human health issues when used in a home. Your next best option would be Ruby Reef Rally Pro, both as a static bath and a higher dose dip.

I have Ruby on the way, but it won’t make it here until Friday. Going to buy and set up a non-cycled quarantine system tonight and tomorrow. It looks like that fish won’t make it, but hopefully I will be prepared for the rest. I’m gonna have to figure out how to get out to go be paired with a pistol shrimp because they like to live under some of my larger rocks

Part of me is really praying that this is just a fluke and that this clown fish was going to die from other causes, and that this isn’t actually Brook:/

I’m just also confused why I’ve had only two clown fish dye in this particular tank and nothing else. Most of my other fish are thriving.

Happened to me 2 times. Lesson learned. Most other fish aren't affected by brook. I would trust vetteguy on this one.

Brooklynella is kind of "hit or miss" with regards to the species that most easily succumb to the infection. certainly clownfish top the list, but for example, I've never seen Brook on damselfish, despite them being in the same family as clownfish. I don't have a comprehensive list of species most affected, but it would include Royal Grammas, jawfish and some angelfish.

Well clown is dead. Store admitted to selling fish with a known (but not known to be Brook) health issue. I’m hopeful a meeting in the next few days chooses to support the customers affected…

That said I’m about to go buy my QT setup….the question I don’t know is where to go with the DT? I have a flame angel, 1 clown, 3 gobies (including one I don’t think I can catch without destroying the tank). Do I risk my singular coral and does ruby into the DT. Will my anemones live, crustaceans live, snails?

If I dose DT I remove any carbon filtration and turn off my UV right?

I am not an expert, but I would suggest just dosing ruby into DT.

@Jay Hemdal if the store offers to take the fish back and quarantine them with the proper medication while I leave the tank fallow should I do that or should I run Ruby in my display tank knowing that it has a fair amount of live rock and pretty well established bacteria?

It would likely require me to completely take apart the tank to get some of the fish out
