i was wondering the same thing i changed over to phosgaurd (seachem) from gfo. i have GHA in my sump nut not in my tank at all.

I have used both products with great success, however BRS bulk GFO will save you money. They have an excellent line of products.

I'd have to agree 100% both are good products and I have used both with success and no big downsides over the years. In my experience, the advantage of GFO is cost and less frequent changes. Phosguard may be a little better at absorbing silicates (new systems, new plastic equipment) and phosguard seems to do better without a reactor. With both, I sometimes worry about metals being leached into my system - iron by GFO, aluminum by phosguard, but I think this is a minimal risk if used properly.

i use gfo and am currently trying to find a way to use it without stripping po4 to 0. right now i am trying to use it on a timer

chemistry books say Iron won't get into water column
