Randy can't monopolize the pet peeve market, but I won't be posting these daily.... And I suspect many of you will agree with me here....

Tanked. I mean it is entertaining, but more often than not I see them build tanks, stocked to the gills with fish, without appropriate aquascape. I can only imagine 6 months after airing most of those episodes they end up with significant losses.

I think that was the show where they “couldn’t find reef safe pipe glue”, and poisoned an octopus by throwing it in a tank with some mystery epoxy based aquascape?

Or was that one of the several spin-offs? Either way, it’s a bit cringe-worthy…

I know someone who personally worked on a few episodes of the show in my area. Iirc, 8 of the 9 (might be wrong here but it’s >80%) tanks he helped with are still actively running and doing well. I can’t speak about the other tanks that he wasn’t involved with. I never watched the show, but have seen the projects he’s worked on over the years and the individuals/companies/countries that have hired him for anything from personal tanks to country’s aquarium exhibits.

Never watched it

Show has been over for a while now and the cast split. Used to watch it years ago. Mostly all their setups were fish only acrylic tanks with fake decorations

I only watched a few snippets here and there it became clear that these guys weren't about the health and welfare of the animals. Also, these types of shows are just "bread and circuses" for those who are into sensationalism (the worshiping of entertainment).

I agree. I never could understand the reality show attraction. There is very little,if any, reality in any of them. Total garbage.

As stated the show ended years ago....I used to watch it just due to lack of options. At the time it was either that or Fish Tank Kings....another bad show lol. They have since come out and said it was strictly entertainment, not to educate anybody. Most of the tanks they did were for businesses that had maintenance people come in and care for them. They also didn't show the process of cycling/maturing the tanks.....the fish they added were normally removed right after the filming.

I forgot about that show. If I am not mistaken, a lot of tanks they set up ended up being torn down

Its just "Pimp My Ride" but with aquariums. 99% were gimmick systems that you just knew were impossible to maintain and not meant to be long-term installs.
It doesn't help that the show is zany and filled with drama lol

I always took the show for what is was, and kind of enjoyed it on a par with 'elevator music'-- but the irony was that as a viewer, you had to know a lot about saltwater aquariums just to understand how a lot of that stuff wasn't going to cut it in real life. 😜

If the show didn’t have drama, most viewers would have stopped watching. I saw it as a reality tv series, not a documentary. I don’t think it was really marketed towards hobbyists anyway, It seemed more like for the general population.
