Hi, I'm installing my Bubble Magus Curve 5 skimmer. When I fire it up, it just overflows in the collection cup. This tells me the water level in the skimmer chamber is too high. So I think I need to elevate the skimmer. I've seen people use filter blocks. Any other suggestions?

I also have questions about the mechanics of the skimmer. What is this little plug for? See purple arrow in picture. What is the purpose of that plug? Also, if that plug is in, then how does the water exit the skimmer body? Does it go up that little tube with the green arrow? I'm confused.

Thank you.

Purple arrow... red cap is for "if" you want to change pump orientation. (The cap need to block the hole)

Water exit at the base of the white tube (green line)
Max = max open... more water exit... (low level in neck)

Low= exit close... almost no water exit...

I have a curve 7 which I run in just under 9 inches of water . I adjusted the water in my sump for the skimmer. The skimmer works great . Don't forget there's a break in period if it's a new skimmer

Regarding the break in period, is it common to get excessive wet foam during this period, and then it settles down? I have mine sitting on a 4 inch filter block, the water line is well below the factory suggestion, the water exit is at "max," and it is generating tons of wet foam which, for the time being, I am just recirculating back into the sump via the drain off the collection cup.

Yes, this is common. During the break in period, the inside of your skimmer will start developing build up on the inside that will slow the bubbling down.

It been a number of years since I started up my Curve 5, I can’t remember exactly how long I had to elevate mine and keep it at max setting. I do recall it taking at least one month.
