what do you guys recommend as good clown fish for a host rose BTA. we were thinking two maroon clowns either standard white or gold banded. they will be a mated pair whatever type is decided. we have a pretty peaceful reef tank everything we have is labeled as pretty peaceful.

Its funny to me you used the words 'peaceful" and "maroon clowns" in the same sentence because they are the opposite of peaceful haha. Snowflake occelaris or some picasso perculas!!

+1 & +2. Maroon clowns are super aggressive. So if you want peaceful then I'd stay away from them and tomato clowns. Try some nice OC's or Perc's as suggested or even look into Clarki's.

dang.... i really like the look of the maroons... the ones at my LFS (mult. stores) all seem to have perfect markings and nice flowing fins... short of the $125+ clowns all the others regular color false and true percs have just seemed kinda trashy looking/ regularly beat up... id really like to get some fish online but i have gone down that road and it ended badly. so im kinda at the whim of my mult. LFS. since i wanted a pair its kinda hard to go for any really expensive ones.

A pair of black and white occelaris look nice too!! they arent very expensive!

after rereading your/my responses i think i now know why i see what i see. i think the maroons might always look the best and the others look trashy because they are the only ones NOT being beat up. dang and tomato clowns are off the table too, but i had heard that before so im not so disappointed in the tomatoes, has anyone heard anything about naked clowns?

yes thats a good idea bigfeesh ($$)... they do look very nice also, id really like to find a pair of onyx but they are a little out of my price range. another idea i had was two Saddle Back clowns, i really liked them but had never heard anything about their aggression, anyone?

There occy's iirc... Get some snowflakes man there beautiful and priced decently or snocasso there a tad more and the big guns Wyoming whites...

Well all I can say is the two maroons I have will attack my hands every time I put my hands in the tank. They love to spend their spare time redecorating their area. A big no on the maroons!!!

I do have a small saddleback with my bubble tip in another tank and it is very calm and peaceful.

Our black white occys attack me when I have hands n ARM in tank between the fingers n ARM. Great fish towards tank mates but over a year n still haven't gone to the 2 gbta in the tank. So hosting isn't a give in. Good luck.

Big Steve

+1 to the perc's. I would steer clear of maroons, or tomatos. Oce's are nice. I personally like the black and whites myself.
