I just got home from work and found Pete (our BTR nem) with part of him stuck in the intake tube cover of the filter system. My husband said he'd only gone to bed 45min. prior and Pete was on the back of one of the rocks. I took the tube off so I could get to him easier and gently pulled out the little marble sized bit of him that was sucked in. I was gentle, but he was slimy (oh so stressed! Poor guy) and once he was out I placed him on a rock to see how he does. The picture here is of him after I got him out. The little bulge on the bottom left side is what was stuck.
Is there anything I should do to help him de-stress? There doesn't appear to be any lacerations (do nems bruise? None seen if they do) and I turned the bright light off and turned on the blue (I'm sorry I always forget what they're called.) Should I stay up tonight to watch him, is there anything I should be doing? I'm very worried, but I don't want to make things worse for him.
It's been about 15 min. now. Pete is on the move, and the slimy strings are gone. That doesn't make me stop worrying, but I'm worried less. Tomorrow I'm going to buy some pantyhose knee highs and cover EVERYTHING that Pete or Dolores (a lilac condylactis) could possibly get sucked into! I honestly did not think they would get sucked into something so narrow (1/8th of inch!) and not what I would call a strong suction. Not like a powerhead or anything.
Thanks in advance.
