Is that silicone sealant inside?

That corner Looks like a leak waiting to happen.
I will have to check if it is silicone sealed, but i don't believe it is being that it is acrylic.

bashsea customer service is horrible, they are saying because its 2 months old (but just filled a week ago) it is used and the only option is to ship it back for them to put another coat of liquid acrylic on it. unreal!

It looks like a few air bubbles in the acrylic welding process and likely not a problem, but don't take my word on it. Let's see if we can get some of our acrylic guru's in here to take a look. @Floyd R Turbo @Lowell Lemon @cromag27 - can you share your expert thoughts on this one?

Having the pleasure of having seen this sump in person, it's a beauty. It's just a shame this was discovered now.

... Paypal, Credit claim?

NO WAY I would let someone like that dictate what I am going to own... You need to file a claim before its too late. The "it's used" argument doesn't work when something has to be put into use, in order to determine if its functional.

I appreciate the heads up on which company we should avoid. It's real dumb of them to treat people this way when they know you are going to post in a place that everyone will see how they treat people.

Yeah I will have to begin the process of a credit claim with american express (which are usually top notch) but I was blown away, I intentionally went with a "high end" sump to avoid this problem, and for 2300 bucks I expect top notch customer service.

@AiKkz ,

I am surprised to see this given the reputation of the vendor. That said a lot of warranties stipulate repair or replacement in the acrylic fabrication realm. So to be honest I would gladly return the sump to the fabricator for their inspection and repair or replacement. It is possible one of the employees missed the bubbles before shipping. Given the amount you spent on the sump I would think they would be willing to send you a call tag to pick up the sump and return it to them. I hope you have the original packaging as this will ensure proper protection of the sump for the return journey. If you have to pay shipping back to them ask if the will reimburse the cost once they receive the sump and see the problem. You would be better off to meet them half way than to kill any attempt at a useful and durable sump for the life of your aquarium.

Get the boss on the phone and share your photos with him. Make sure the photos show the bubbles and the mfg name so they can see it is their product. No need to do that here as we take your word for it. I am always nervous about calling someone out on social media since it can create friction with a company that you really want a good relationship with since this is a warranty question.

Wish you well on your quest. If that fails PM me and we might find other options for you.

I do not have the packaging it came in, therefore to ship this back to Michigan it would cost me hundreds of dollars, plus the cost of a crate and protection. I shouldn't have to pay for that.

I agree in my world I would send you a call tag for the item. A call tag is to instruct the shipper to pick up the item and return it to me and bill my account not yours. I would request that of the fabricator if they are willing. Maybe even ask nicely if they would ship you the cartons to assure no damage on the return. It never hurts to ask. Wait until you are cool so you don't act like me and go airborne like a moon shot lol! Manufacturers work hard for their reputation so give them a chance to earn it again!

If they are not willing you would still have less in the outcome than just throwing away $2300.00 for a sump that keeps you wondering if you might develop a leak. If it is not leaking now then you may be okay but the corner looks a little sketch in your photo. It can be repaired but then I am sure you don't want to do that as a first rule of business.

By the way I looked at your build thread. Is this the original sump you have in the pictures? Beautifully done build by the way....I could watch your tank all day even without fish and corals lol!

You could find one of those MI people on spring break to take your sump back for you...you know half the eastern US will be in FL for spring break...yeah I sampled a few times.,..just nuts!

Yeah that's a good idea, I'd have to trust them, and I don't trust alot of people lol. Here's the owners response. Not very friendly to the public.

I bought a tank that had an overflow built into the back that had a sketchy seam that I noticed when I filled the tank. It held real good for three or four years.
2 weeks ago I am working remote and got a frantic phone call from home telling me that that seam had failed and there was lots of water on the floor.

A very good friend from A lfs went to my house and put the tank on life support until I could get home and make an acrylic seam repair. It looks like “help” but it holds water. I really didn’t want to set up a new tank, move, hassle with it.

If that is silicone in the bottom, then someone sold you a tank they expected might leak, but worse is that whatever is built up in that corner makes a simple repair a bit more difficult and probably a lot more unsightly when it’s fixed.

My tank had some crazy tape stuck to it by the frantic caller that went to Lowe’s for acrylic repair advice before they let me know of the problem. It turns out that denatured alcohol will remove glue from tape and cleans acrylic really well without damaging the plastic surface. Gl

yeah way too many bubbles for my tastes. send it back.
I just reached out to premium aquatics where I bought, and I just want to return it and go with a geo. It's unreal spending that kind of money and bashsea saying it'll never leak, I would accept micro bubbles, but this is a whole corner full of air.

Close up. No way I'm living with this, then a year down the road I lose thousands of fish and coral.

Just to let all of you reading this know that alcohol and cause micro cracking (crazing) especially around seem areas that have been polished. So if you are cleaning a tank in particular only use water with a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle to mist the surface. Clean with a clean soft 100% cotton cloth and you will enjoy years of service with out the crazing that can occur with the wrong cleaners.

you could try squirting acrylic solvent in the cracks and then clamp it. that is pretty bad. I make acrylic tanks and that is really bad if I had a weld like that I would scrap it and start over.
