I've had this bubbling on the soft tissue of my SPS (both acros and stylophora) for several months now. The bubbles can get pretty large. It seems like it doesn't happen to a lot of SPS keepers but I'm curious if anyone has noticed any remedies to correct it. The corallites of some acros tend to take on a more bulbous appearance in addition to the bubbles.

I think you probably dosing an incorrect numbers of something like Ca or Mg , to cause a huge swing of water parameters.
Just correct your water parameters to an normal level slowly, must be slowly remember, and than keep stable water parameters, for about two or three months .
I think your coral will recover again.
Kh big swing will cause rtn directly.
So IMO , it maybe the big swing of Ca. Or Mg.

Can we see some pictures?
Absolutely I will have to try to take some next week. It's certainly an interesting presentation. I don't have my camera at the moment so I will try to snap some next week.

Could be. I tried to do some research on it and it seems like some have noticed it with excessive Mg I believe. That said, my Ca and Mg have tested in line with new Salifert kits. In my 30 gallon tank I do tend to chase Alk a little so certainly this could be driving it by making the coral less healthy.

FWIW it does not present like RTN and the coral do not seem to die from it. Over a long period of time I have noticed some STN but it does not seem to be coming from the bubbled areas themselves.

I only had this happen to my OG Purple Monster when I first had it. The tissue would form blisters that if popped the tissue would die in that area. I attributed it to tank immaturity and imbalances with my system. The coral made it through this phase. No other Acropora has ever done this to me.

Pictures would be helpful

Several of my sps did this. They all died :-(

Sorry it took me a while to get a photo. This is one of the worst acros affected. Again, I initially noticed it first in one acro and it has since moved to several others. I have lost a couple from it. I wonder if it is something bacterial or if they are responding weirdly to some element.

I think this is about dosing wrong quantity of Ca or Mg . Increase too rapid one of these two things.

Certainly that would be the easy fix so I hope so. Mg is at 1380, Ca at 450, and Alk at 8.6. If anything, I've had a rise in Alk but again this has been going on slowly for a long time (6 months or more).

I want to bump this thread as I have the same issue and I don’t know what it could be as my ICP came back near perfect and I’m dosing 2 part equally so no ionic imbalance, my CA is 440 dKh 8 and Mg 1410. So I don’t get it.

Is the bubble hard or can you “pop” it?

I can pop it, some are like tiny tiny blisters others balloon a lot more. Will take more photos but it’s not just this, same as the original thread the polyps become bulbous/tulip shaped ☹️

Any idea of par values they are getting (as well as spectrum)?
