I get my new frag tank today, 48x48x16. I am going to build a stand out of tslot, I am thinking 4040. This new frag tank is 100g larger then my current frag tank. My dilemma is two fold:

1) when I built my system out I had my sump built to handle a certain amount of overflow when power goes out. When I hook this tank up, I am going to bend near the far end of the red zone, way too close to spill over for me. I want to have a remote sump (custom built) that will sit under this tank, it is likely that 50% of this sump will eventually be a Refugium for the system in totality. Since it is a look down clearance will be tight which is fine as there won’t be a ton to service under the frag. Water is pumped from the sumps return chamber to the frag tank. I’ll have x3 1” lines plumbed between the sumps. From there it will feed into the first roller chamber where I will use a pump to feed the roller when I decide to use it. I don’t use my rollers 24x7.

2) I want to build this tank out so that it is a look down frag tank. It does have starfire glass, but it is euro’d with no cross bracing.

So my question:
I only want the 4 corners and 1 additional vertical support, that being on the overflow side. I will be using 4040. I don’t want a center support and I don’t want vertical supports in the middle of the 4 sides, only the overflow side. When I look at the pictures of Than’s tanks (Tidal Gardens), his stands are constructed this way. What am I missing? This tank will have 130g filled, while it’s a big cube, it’s a very shallow one. Should I have any concerns spanning 48” with only cross supports? I will also use 2.5 times as many. Cross supports as normal. Thoughts? TYIA, Chris

30/30 isn't robust enough ?
Well, the biggest I have worked with is 2040. I contemplated using that for cross supports. I e used that heavily on my build for structural needs and it’s fabulous. So my conventional excel based thinking was to take 2040 to 4040. I didn’t think about 3030. 4040 is so dang expensive.
