I setup a new calcium reactor about a week and a half ago. I’m running a Kamoer pump to pull the water through the reactor and into my sump. The effluent is set very low as my SPS are still pretty small. My issue is that I originally had trouble getting the water to enter into the reactor but after manually siphoning the water in, it was working fine. All of a sudden today, I heard my record pump making swishing noises and I have lots of bubbles in my reactor. The effluent doesn’t have a consistent drip either.

And thoughts on why I’m not pulling water into my reactor consistently, and why this just started happening after 10 days of operation?

Water supply into the reactor needs pressure to keep the reactor full. When the CO2 is released it creates pressure in the reactor and it can fill up with air (CO2 really) and displaces the incoming water.

In the last hour that I’ve been monitoring this issue my CO2 hasn’t come on. Now my effluent has completely stopped. It’s pushing out nothing but air.

It almost seems as though I have an air leak, it’s just strange that it only started today after running over a week with no issues.

Some pics would help.
Your system may be pulling air.
It can only come from the pump, intake hose or the top seal.
What mlm are you running?
Where is the intake to the reactor located?
If the pump cavitates then it will produce many bubbles.
This happens if I turn off my reactor. I manually shake the reactor to remove the air once the recirculating pump is turned back on and it will settle if no air leak is present
Turn the kamoer up to 70-80mlm to get the effluent stable then turn down.
What is the dkh of your effluent?
I run 30 dkh even when I started it on day one. I started the effluent at 5mlm.
I am 8 months in and run 22mlm with 30 dkh effluent.
My setup.
