Calcium Test Kit

Getting some curious, though not necessarily incorrect, calcium readings from my trident. Had the hanna kit on hand .... and I quickly remembered why I don’t use it. Almost impossible to get consistent readings. Fell back to the old API. What kits are folks using these days? Red Sea, Salifert?

I like Red Sea. But tbh the api is good enough in my opinion. Salifert is also good. Honestly I think its just a preference.

It works similar to the red sea except it works in reverse of how you read the numbers. so you base it off of how much liquid you have left in the syringe vs how much you put into the vial like red sea.

I use Red Sea and it’s been consistent. I have the hanna too and don’t use it

Test maybe once a month and use salifert. My calcium is very stable as long as alk is stable.

Same here despise the Hanna Calcium. Red Sea backs up the Trident for me.

Am inclined to agree, though my reagents expired in 2015 ..... probably time to get a new set.

Manually I test calcium with Red Sea kit. Too many times has Hanna calcium kits failed me. With reefbot I use good old api kits. Works just as well.

Salifert is still good. It is cheap enough to have one on hand to double check your other stuff. I don't know if it's absolute number is accurate, but they are at least consistent in obtaining that number.

I’m really just looking for an occasional validation of the trident. Trust .... but verify!

I hear ya! I am letting you all work the bugs out of it and I will probably get one in a few years. I cannot believe that you are on the leading edge of this somewhat unproven thing. I only test calcium about once a quarter anyway with the CaRx running... just carbonate would work for me.

Ca is API for me. I used to get it from Foster and Smith for about 7 bucks, I believe. Looks like 10$ now from other sources. It seems to be +/- 20 ppm, which is close enough for me.

Maybe once a month I test Ca, but probably not even that often. I use kalk, so a similar outcome to you guys' fancy reactors.
