Hi everyone a group I'm in on Facebook is having a pico tank contest and since I had an empty 5 gallon sitting around I decided why not try my hand at a pico build. I'm a little behind others in the contest as sometimes as we all know life gets in the way of tank stuff. Yesterday I set it up added live sand and a small rock from my lfs that had two little red mushrooms on it. I had an extra HOB filter to use and a light as well. I plan on doing macroalgea, 4 sexy shrimp, a few easy softie corals, a small cuc and I am still trying to decide if I will add a fish and if so which one. I have dosed with Dr.Tims as well for an extra bacteria boost.

Did you use ammonia with the Dr. Tim’s?

No because of the live rock with the mushrooms I didn't want to chance killing the mushroom. I did add a piece of shrimp though and one single hermit crab this morning.

Yep, I had a red one but it let go and ended up somewhere behind the rocks and I never saw it again. Here’s my blues.

My oldest son upgraded his 1.5 gallon to a 10 gallon yesterday. Still a little cloudy but he added a peppermint shrimp yesterday to “add a little movement.” He keeps coming up and looking at my tank and I have to keep reminding him it’s been up for almost 3/12 years. I think he has been infected with the saltwater bug. Anyone want to place a bet on how long it will be until he converts one of his large freshwater tanks to salt?
