Yup, now I do have 3 prime’s but my tank is 36 inches and a 24inch XHO bar but it’s so low (2 clicks from off) and I have not had it for long. Primes are the only lights I have had. Wish my camera was better these corals really shine. Just though I would show anybody that is looking at primes they do work

I have 2 over my IM20 and have some acros like Cali tort doing fine. I’ll probably add more as I frag my main tank. My goal is 1 prime per foot. I do love that you can overdrive the channels by not using the ones you don’t.

I have 2 Radions over my DT and a prime over my frag tank... the tanks are connected in series, so basically the water is pretty much the same...
My SPS in my frag under the AI Prime look drastically different in coloration and growth...

So yeah, the AI 16 works very well for me too!!

the issue i had with the prime wasn't the power as much as the spread.

i went to a 32hd, and i'd be willing to guess that our par map through the tank would be somewhat close.

Those are some nice colonies. Do people argue that that Primes can't grow corals? That would be a dumb argument. I think they are among the best selling salt lights.

Do you think 1 every foot might be the perfect way to do it for SPS?

The attitude I have seen on here and other forms and generally online from some of the snobs is the primes are entry level only good for softies in LPS you’ll never grow decent Sps with these lights. If you’re going to go LED and be serious about it it’s Radion’s or nothing. Maybe it’s because these people are trying to justify spending thousands of dollars on lights. There was a guy on here asking questions and starting out and he was told by several people start with the primes but upgrade to something else before you start buying SPS cause they will slowly starve. Of course most of these people talk a big game but never Actually show pictures of their tank (I feel if you give advice prove you can back it up). I even played dumb at LFS and they went off about how crappy they are and you can’t be serious about growing colonies unless you have halide or Radions. Of course before I left I showed them my tank which looked better than anything on display on the floor and they did not believe I only had primes on my tank. I think to a lot of people in this hobby price equates to quality and since they are one of the cheapest out there they can’t be any good. I just wanted people to see that you can grow killer sticks with just the Prime 16’s you don’t need to spend so much on lighting to get great results. I think tanks now a days are super over lit. My primes are turned way down

8 inches off the surface, 16 inches of water at the deepest. 20 inch wide tank. 2 AI primes
Same dimensions as me. And this is my setup. Only one light. Might lower the red. Raise the rest maybe

I've grown sps under every ai light all the way back to sols without problem. Sps should just be placed directly under the primes for best results, the spread is the biggest issue and par falls off pretty quick on the sides if you don't run multiples

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
