Canister Reefing Question

I want to have high bio load fish like puffers and other predatory fish, do I need to rethink using canisters as my only filtration? My concerns are that I won’t be able to use a skimmer. I’m looking at building a large tank on the ground level and have it built into cabinetry with limited space so a sump won’t be an option. Furthermore I don’t care what anyone says, there is always a bit of splashing around in a sump especially on a large, high turnover tank whereas a canister is completely silent. This matters since it will be a bedroom tank. This will be a fowlr only no corals! What do ya’ll think?

Ps: I already have a large reef tank with a sump and the whole 9 yards, so I’m not oblivious to the fact that sumps are the best form of filtration.

How are you thinking about high nitrate and phosphate.control?

A canister filter is a minimal amount of filtration on any tank. As mentioned above, it does not export nitrate or phosphate. We always add nitrate/phosphate to the tank, so a filtration system should include some method to export the nitrate/phosphate, such as skimmer or refugium or carbon dosing or AWC. If the nutrients are not exported, it will result in algae.
