i have a 75 gallon mixed reef tank with a HOB filter that i use carbon media, i am having problems keepping my zoa's open i have tried everything freshwater dip etc. my par levels are good could the carbon filter be the problem for them not opening?

my par levels are real good i have a duncan with about 30 heads two arco's a frogspawn with about 10 heads, a torch a few mushrooms and a lot of xenia's i have 2 vho's and 2 14 k mh's with 3 wave makers. they are all doing fine

ya i know they are all where they should be
ph 8.3-8.4
nitrate 0
calcium 400
magnesium 1560
dkh 12ish
salinity 1.028

with all the sps and lps i have shouldn't they notify me if something was wrong with the water.. i mean like the xenia's i know the minute the water changes they close up same with the mushrooms and frogspwan.. i cant figure out why half of the polpys open and the other half wont open i have dipped them in freshwater and still nothing. is there anything else. i can do. i don't run a chiller because my a/c keeps it cool enough i only let the temp get up to about 81- 82 and it drops down to 77-78 after the lights are off i have also sat and looked to see if i have a brittle star coming out and bothering them. i have one but i haven't seen him in about a month and its a small small small small brittle star.

water just might be too clean. prolific mounts of xenia can compete with just about anything for nutrients. zoas like dirty water.

2 vho's and 2 14k mh's i had a few sps that i lost due to my a/c going out while i was gone for a week. that is why i have my salt at that level. but everything esle is doing good. ill try to lower my salt level and see if that works ill do a water change tomorrow and give it a few days and see

how often are u doing the dips? if your doing them every couple days it could be stressing them even more than they may already be.
