Caribsea Life rock tree broken

So I ordered the caribsea life rock tree that comes in 4 pieces. I was fully expecting something to be broken. Turns out every single piece was broken. I am going to go to the hardware store and get gel gorilla glue. Is this sufficient to hold whole pieces that are snapped in half? They fit back together but I want to make sure it will work. Also I might add I don’t have any epoxy on hand. Is there something home depot or lowes carries that I could use epoxy wise or is the super glue going to hold fine?

not in my opinion.....you could always just stack them up randomly or just return and get what you paid for

Second return and get what you paid for...but if you really want them to hold you could drill the pieces and use dowels to help hold them together better in conjunction with bonding them.

You can use the super glue gel and baking soda to set it. Then use jb weld (water weld) epoxy putty. It’s nsf rated and reef safe. Petco if you have one usually has epoxy too.

You should do a search on this board on CaribSea LifeRock. It seems to be the dry rock which is involved in a disproportionately large number of long painful battles with the uglies.

I’ve used it in 2 tanks with limited to no uglies in both. It was cured for months ahead of time but still no issues. I’ve done the same cure with Marco rock and had uglies way worse. I won’t even touch or recommend Marco rock at this point because of all the issues we see with it

To the OP, I ordered 3 boxes in total and one piece come in broken in half. It happens. I super glued it back together and it’s been holding up just fine. I saw someone use mortar from Home Depot the other day. I don’t recall the brand and type they used though

If you want toy try to use the rock you have I believe it is very easy to put back together. You can use superglue with some sort of binder like ground up dry rock (they sell this made out of MarkoRock fines), very fine sand, or baking soda to weld things together. If you have superglue accelerator that helps speed the process significantly. Then reinforce the seams with reef mortar (preferred) or epoxy.

Aquascaping with dry rock using these methods is very common. Bunch of YouTube videos on it. Just remember my post above if you find yourself in a prolonged battle with uglies when summer or fall rolls around around. I have no first hand experience with these rocks but I have seen it involved in numerous uglies threads and videos. If you use these rocks that provides another data point!

I am going to use what I have in this cube.

Our local petsmart had IO hold fast epoxy. I may use it in hidden areas since it’s white. I picked up some gorilla gel also.

It’s a pain not having a good lfs in my area. We used to have a store called inland aquatics but the owner closed his doors. He was a marine biologist. Very intelligent guy who had everything.

I got it superglued and letting it cure. I did stop at a petsmart and got instant ocean hold fast epoxy. After I build the tree I am going to tied them together with epoxy.

No vendor covers rock. The couriers don’t insure it and you are to expect some breakage.
