I would make sure to cover that powerhead -- it doesn't appear that the anemone's "foot" is fully in the sandbed. Would hate for it to start to float and get shredded by that powerhead.

I've a 60g cube. I have 2 ocellaris, 1 black ocellaris, 1 perc, and 1 maroon. These were all added at different times. I believe the trick is that the newest clown must be the largest. The current clowns seem to bond in their hatred of the newest clown but are to small to hurt him. The aggression fades once dominance is established. The maroon I'm unsure of the sex but the others are one male/3 female. When i picked up the maroon i violated my rule and almost cost the maroon his life. it was a melee. I removed him but have since put him back. I've had no problems. I have no doubt others may disagree with my theory but it's worked great for me!

Thanks so much!! Clowns are mine also!! The relationship between clowns and anemones was one of my primary motivators. They each have tremendous personality! Watching them tussle at first was probably harder on me than them! I stayed by the tank a couple hours. I'm confident now in this method as it played out 4 times as anticipated. I completely understand your trepidation!

I, personally, would stick with just one pair per tank. While more than a pair will work in the short term, once a spawning pair forms, all bets are off. It can go South very quickly -- often before you can react -- watching a pair of clowns kill another clown isn't something I care to watch again.

Just to provide context. I've had 8 very major back surgeries these past years and I'm home all day everyday to monitor such things. This gives me a unique perspective as I watch my tank all the time. Should trouble arise I'm here to see it. Also it's my opinion that you do what you can to minimize risk but things can always change on a dime. I was told to avoid mandarins and scooter dragonets yet they've ended up thriving in my tank. TREX knows his stuff but I do to. Everyone's opinions are colored by their experiences. In this hobby there are very few facts... there are many road to the same destination.

I am on #6 -- including a fusion and emergency surgery for a cerebral spinal fluid leak --- one is not always in the position to intervene.


I won't comment further, but stand by my words that having more than 2 is asking for trouble -- long term*

* == 2 years or more. A 6-12 months of 5 clowns (( including a maroon that I thought was removed )) doesn't count.

I did see my 2 sets go at it when spawning was happening,l Sold 1 set ,Still got the other that nobody wants :( except u liquid..

I think its amazing you have had success with so many clowns, I too have wanted to try to have several in my tank but there are always those that say no way it can be or should be done. Congrats to your success.

That's beautiful, I had surgery on my acl and was forced to stay in bed for 3 or 4 weeks. Without my reefs I would have been bored to death, it's like watching a 48 inch television full of beauty. I can never get tired of my tanks because no reef tank will ever be "done". I see tanks as puzzles where when you think you're done, you see you're missing the corner, which branches into more and more,

I've been stuck at home for years with back surgeries so I completely understand! I can see my tank from every room in my loft and watch it more than the TV or computer. I've said before that some people build their reef for something to look at while other build it for something to do. For me it's a never ending project to fill my days in a way that I find fulfilling. I can't imagine ever wanting to say I'm done. I adore the daily rituals, the testing, the aquascaping, the maintenance... i think it's great fun!
