I’ve had this red haddoni for years. It’s always been happy. It’s been through prophylactic treatment prior to introducing years back and one in tank treatment as a bystander which I don’t feel is related to this current issue.

It basically has a permanent feeding response/prolapsed mouth. It’s not pancaking on me.. nor is it rotting or displaying the typical symptoms you would see with a sick carpet. No guts/ filaments visible .. or anything. Just a healthy fleshy mouth like you see when they are hongry or eating... Nothing has changed in this system. It’s been this way for three weeks now. It will occasionally close up for brief periods and appear normal but right back out.

I though something may have been stuck inside of it but gently inspecting reveals no foreign object/sand/food/ect.

It’s still VERY sticky/ has an excellent feeding response (but won’t eat) and always drops the food at some point shortly after snaring and pulling too mouth. I think mostly because its mouth isn’t mechanically inclined to allow food in from being swollen.

Has not moved. Foot is firmly attached. Clowns still hosting. It is most certainly about 30% smaller than it typically would be. It has not deflated/purged.

I’ve done water changes. running carbon.. testing ect. Nothing I can test for at home is out of line. Parameters are all within acceptable range and no observable swings. I’ve been keeping carpets for a long time and I’ve never had one do this before.

Anybody have any thoughts on what might be going on? I was really hoping it was going to self correct but it’s been a few weeks now and I don’t think that’s going to work out.

Below is a video.. pretty much explains it all.

My next move was in tank CPF for 7 days @ .125mg/L q12H.

Interesting. My initial thought was something stuck in it and it wants it out but the very careful look inside I did didn’t really find anything.

Is yours still eating? Hopefully somebody else can chime in and help us figure this out!

Did you already treat with CIP?

Woah never seen this before that wild, how far inside did you look thinking maybe something indigestible. Never seen nems bloat their mouths like that before

I really didn’t want to damage it but I used a glass cylinder to peer inside and can’t really see any foreign objects at all. I’d say roughly 1” or so into it. It’s very flat and the stem isn’t stalked reaching for light ever (it’s never really stretched out for light).

And it won’t eat? What lights are you running and intensities?

I read Ymir wouldn’t eat but wondering if it has since the original post. Let me ask some of my colleagues if they have any thoughts (we are marine biologists lol)

It tries to eat but once it hits the mouth bubble it kind of just slops off. I’ve tried placing something closer to the mouth and it just kind of sits there so I’ll remove it after an hour or so. I don’t think rotting food is going to be very helpful. My mean b*^%h mccullochi isn’t very pleased with said food hanging out for long either.

My only other thought is something smells really good to it constantly and it’s sooo hongry? I honestly have no clue. I’ve had carpets for better part of 20 years and im stumped. When they go south it’s usually very very obviously.

Light isn’t an issue. It’s been in the same spot same light for years. Flow.. routine.. nothing has changed.

Any updates? My LFS recently closed and they gave me the blue haddoni, I’ve been eyeing for over a year, for free. It’s was doing well for several months but as the store began to close it had this prolapsed appearance. Still stick and still eats 1-2 small pieces (1/4 in.) of food. When they first received it it was over a foot in size but due to poor lighting and I’m sure no feeding it shrank, now it’s about 8 in. 🤞🤔

That looks like a typical pancaking carpet. Mouth does not appear healthy. I would pull and treat or treat in tank if your able to manage the downstream effects.

Just an update for those still interested. The Haddoni is recovering well and there has been no issues with the prolapse getting worse. It did move to the corner and has remained there for several weeks.
