Celebrity Reefers?

I wonder if we have anyone famous lurking here on R2R. I also wonder if there are celebrities who actually take part in the hobby (NOT just paying someone to put a tank in and to maintain it). Does anyone know of any?

Nope but I have done work for several of them on non fish tank related stuff and most of them are not all that deep. They love shiny new toys and will go whoo and wow for 5 minutes and then move onto something else. I would think that they just look at their tanks and probably have them mainly as a show item when they have people over. I would imagine they expect a service company to do everything. Of course you do have exceptions, but I have not met one yet.

When I was on TV and pay per view for a couple of years my oldest daughter loved Althea attention she would get from kids that were a fan of mine which is cool n all.

But I sat her down and told her
It’s nice to be important “ But it’s more important to be nice. Treat as you want to be treated “

Speaking of great minds in reef care, Paul B is nearly unmatched in experience. Dana riddle has their own section on the site. Not sure where famous happens, but there’s lots of long time reefers on here and RC that are famous to nerds like us.

Also sk8r at RC is a sci-fi author and a great mind in reef care.

Sk8r still posting over there? It's been a few years years since I checked that one out. Pretty sure my join date there is 2006 (MTB is my user name if I remember correctly).

I can’t say for sure. I’m proudly banned by a couple mods over there. The rest of the gang is solid and the info is excellent. Using r2r and RC and NR is great. All the the info we can share makes us better at this hobby.

I refuse to even look at that site from my past interactions. Some of those guys really do know there stuff though. ca1ore Is one that I remember from that site. Along with RHF of course. I wonder if muchoreef is still in this hobby. He had the sweetest zoa and shroom tank I've ever seen in photos.

Well, even if a celebrity does take an active roll in reef keeping, the bigger and more popular they are, the more often they will be travelling for work. Whether it is to shoot a film, go on a concert tour, or going on the road to play against another team in a city across the country, they will need someone to take care of their tanks while they are away. So I can forgive them for paying other people to look after their tanks and maintain them. God knows I would be worried as all heck if I were to go out of town for an extended period of time without anyone to watch all my pets be it fish, dogs,...platypuses? People keep those, right?

Yes I agree but the only problem with it is that most of them just want something and have no idea how rare the species may be. Unfortunately some of the companies will endlessly cater to their whims and throw in fish that just won't survive in that environment. So when it dies it just gets replaced with a new one. The owners have no problem shelling out an additional $2K on the monthly bill for replacement fish and the maintenance company in many cases have no moral issue with supplying them with an endless amount of replacements.

Well, I've never really told anyone here, but I'm really...
