Does anyone ever remove their Chaeto from their refugium and rinse it with tank water to remove the dirt which get trapped in it? basically clean it like a sponge filter and put it back in the refugium after its been rinsed/cleaned.

Yes. I'll even rinse/shake it with RO water a few times to save on the salt water..

You can do it when you are doing a water change and rinse it off in the same tank water to get any trapped detritus out. Depending on how thick your Chaeto is it can definitely act as a sponge or even filter floss :p
