Hopefully there is some interest in this. Not that I don't LOVE/drool over the macros and frag shots in the Chalice show off thread. They are amazing!

I think aquascaping with chalices can be somewhat challenging and would love to see how people are integrating their chalice into their aquascape. Please show off your mad aquascaping chalice skills!

Please let's keep this thread focused and clean.

Keep on topic to aquascaping with chalices-either posting your sweet aquascape or asking a specific question to chalice aquascaping

No macro shots, unless they are accompanying an aquascape shot.

Mods-can you please clean up this thread? THANK YOU!

I've cleaned up this thread per the original posters request so let's try and keep this on topic going forward as I agree that aquascaping with chalices can be challenging.

I personally have been using gooch's (Alternative Reef) magnetic reef shelfs for some of my chalices.

I have mine strewn across the substrate. I used to have a few glued to rocks, but, since I am renting and have yet to settle down in a place permanently, I took them off to allow for easier transport.

I hate to be a stickler. :nerd: I would really like to keep posting to just pics of actual chalice aquascaping or a specific question with something you are struggling with and want advice on.

THANKS!

As you guys can see the chalices pretty much dominate. They will kill and grow over SPS corals. It is trial and error as to which ones will grow into other chalices without killing them. Currently i have oregon mummy eye and bubble gum monster growing together. Also have purple urkel and pastel chalice growing together and two different orange chalices growing together. I haven't had too many issues with sweeper tentacles from chalices killing other chalices. The only two that i have issues with that is hollywood stunner and keylime mango chalice. Both of those kill anything within 3" of them!
Also I have noticed that chalices and zoanthids coexist fine together. The zoas do seem to inhibit chalice growth once they touch, but no tissue recession or damage. The chalice will grow around them. See pic above of superman chalice and two zoas growing together

Thanks for being the starter Stylaster!! Amazing pics. I was actually wondering that about chalices, if they can grow together with no issue or if they will attack other chalices. Thanks for getting that answered too.

no problem most people seem to not incorporate the chalices into their landscape. I see them either on the sand (which is not how they are in the wild, usually on drop offs attached to substrate) or on frag racks

I hate to bump an old thread, but does anyone else care to share ideas on LPS (particularly chalice/acan) dominated aquascapes?

Yep and every chalice that i have put on my sandbed eventully receeds. So now i put them on the rocks and hope for the best with the others, and they grow much better IMO.

Well it's good to know that i'm not crazy. It took me years and alot of heart ach before i relized what was going wrong. I tell people up here my findings and they all think i'm crazy. I buy beautiful chalice colonies that are thriving on sandbeds and bang within a month gone. I don't know how others do it.
