All most all my chalices seems to be dying off. No other coral seems to be the slightest bit affected. I have several SPS, Acans, Favia, Scoly, BPTA, Pogoda, Monti's and none are faded, stressed and polyps out. Only chalices seems to be affected, I have had some of theses for years and have seemed to be the easiest of my LPS.

My stats are temp. 76-78, Alk 10.2, Mg 1250, Sal 1.024, PH 8.2, Cal 420, Ph .05. Trates 0. 250 MH phoenix and I use a Kalk drip 24/7. Nothing in my tank has changed in months and nothing has been added in over 3 months. It seems other more sensitive corals would be effected before the chalices are.

Just my opinion Chaliices are a bit sensitive to high Alk maybe should be lowered to around 9DKH also mag should be around 1350?

I have (2) 250 MH lights and they are on the sand bed and some shaded by monti's. Would my Low Alk and Mag be a sudden issue? These have been some what constant for over a year including my lighting. I changed the bulbs 4 months ago.

My chalices do get a bit crazy over high alk I would bring it down a bit and for your mag I do feel it's a bit low I try to keep my mag above 1450 for best results. I would start there and hope for improvements from there and for my CA I never passed 430 and have amazing growth

I had an issue recently where the chalices were doing great and suddenly were loosing color and receding. one turned brown, others whitish. Bazooka Joe was the first to get hit hard. mummy eyes and some others followed suit. all the SPS maintained perfectly as did the LPS.

3 interceptor treatments (on recommendation for a well season chalice keeper) and the chalices started turning around. apparently back in the 07 or so a few folks got hit with a suspected Aussie bug that you cant see. interceptor takes care of it (and any inverts you have).

Bazooka joe is back in action, mostly colored up and has a rim. all in all the 1.5" piece went down to 1/2*1/8" - painful, but at least its still around.

I'm with Blurry on this. I had a similar issue with many of my chalice, and my aussie acans, as the tissue on the edges would start receeding until it withered away. I haven't figured out the problem, and my parameters check out good, so I did the interceptor treatment on recommendation from a trusted LFS. I was told it could be red bugs, but no matter what kind of bug, I'm hoping the interceptor will solve it because I've been unable to solve this unfortunate mystery for quite a # of months.

My alk was high (13dkh) for a few days & chalices did fine. Could be type of disease or predator. Did you add anything new as of late?

There has been no real swings in anything. My kalk drip keeps alk/ca stable. My Mag I still add when needed, but it has been in the same range for at least a year. My temps are always the same since my tank is on a chiller.

The interceptor treatments I will have to look into. I did a google and lots of mentions with acro's but it can still be some sort of parasite. But if I treat the whole tank it will kill off all my inverts and just dipping will not work either since they are still in tank. I have some nice shrimp in this tank and they are impossible to catch.

Well last night I pulled all my chalices and dipped them in Marin coral dip. I know it is almost impossible to tell if what came off was a parasite by sight only. There may have been critters I did not see but of what I did was dozens of the large copedods I think they start with a "R" and some worm like things. They were thin, clear and wiggled to the top and about the same length as the copepods.

I am not sure if that helped anything I can only hope it does. I may have to redip but no other coral seems to be affected. I am not sure it is a Alk/PH issue because my Xenia and green birds nest are fine. Tthey always suffer when that is off.

I hve a chalice dominated tank...In my opinion ur parameters seems to be fine besides ur salinity...i always keep my salinity at .026 to .027 and it does make a big difference...ur alk is fine but i would raise the mag up to 1400 and i dnt see that because ur mag is reading 1250 and ur chalices r getting affected...i might wont help chalices to grow but not recede... if their feeding tenacles r out trying feeding them brine or mysis with all ur pumps off for about 30 min....i would storngly suggest to raise ur salinity to .026 to .027 ..nitrates can not be 0....u can someone run a complete test for u to be sure that ur reading r right....raise mag up to 1400 also slowly..
