Chase's Fluval Spec V Build Thread

Hey fellow reef keepers! After about 2 years out of the hobby I am finally getting another tank together. This Spec V will hold me over while I build out my 8ft x 4ft x 12in trough, and but we are hear to talk about the nano.

This tank will be the new home for two deformed clown fish. My girlfriend rescued them form her job at a clown fish breeding facility. They are perfectly health little guys but the are not able to be sold retail because of their deformities.

I just picked up the tank this morning from Petco. Did quite a bit of research before picking it up. I didn't do any in boxing pictures b if I'm sure there are plenty in r2r. As soon as I got home I pulled some dry rock, pump, and a heater out of storage. Of course the pump I had in storage and wanted to use, Hydor Centrifugal 200GPH, won't fit in the back chamber of the tank. Below is my planed equipment list and wanted list if anyone has them laying around :)

Equipment
  • Return Pump: Mini Jet 606 (Need)
  • Heater: Hydor 50W
  • Refugium light: TBD (Want to run refugium in media compartment)
  • Light: Stock for now until coral is introduced ( Thinking Kessil A80 but open to others)
  • Powerhead: Hydor 225 or 240 (Need)
  • Controller: Raspberry Pi based controller (In Work)
  • ATO/Auto Water Change: Raspberry Pi will control as well
Livestock
  • Pair of Clowns
  • Small CUC
  • Bubble Tip Anemone
  • Various LPS and Some SPS
I think I have finished the aquascaping! Water going in Monday. Please ignore the potato quality pictures. I will just the camera out tomorrow.

Definitely do not want to do a pair of clowns in a spec v. It's way to small. You'd need at least a 20. In that tank you could do some inverts, corals, and maybe a yellow clown goby, but that's way to small for clownfish. And the kessil A80 with the gooseneck mount would work perfect for that tank as the gooseneck would mount exactly where the stock light is and have a very clean install look to it :)

They will not be in there for a long time. They are very small right now and will be fine till they begin to grow out. They are actually so small they are now transitioning to standard food at the farm. They will be taking care of well.
