I just watched a documentary on Netflix called Chasing Coral. Enlightening to say the least. Just wanted to share for others that might enjoy watching it.

We did watch this. Still not really sure how to feel. All I can say is I learned a whole new kind of respect for the animals I have in my reef!
Dont get me wrong at all. I grew up in Mass in the wild. Housatonic river in my back yard. I've always had deepest respect for the wild and animals in it. You learn at a very young age you cant shoot a deer because you accidentally stepped on a new born walking through a field as a toddler.Your supposed to have anew respect for animals in the wild...That is the whole point, not the ones in your tank.
It stood out to me that in that doc, algae grew where it was permitted to grow, where coral flesh is missing.
algae takeover never was starved by water params, it had to be actively excluded from the sps branches by living sps flesh to not take over. The water from pristine reefs grows algae, it doesn’t nutrient restrict it at all was amazing.
I seen this in my own system when I recieved a gorgonian coral shipped to me out of water. Only took a cpl days and was heart breaking to say the least. It stood out to me that in that doc, algae grew where it was permitted to grow, where coral flesh is missing.
