hmmm what does that mean "the earths crust is missing" ? Is it a big empty hole down to the mantle? Isnt the mantle a layer of essentially, Lava? Wouldnt the lava harden where it meets the cold ocean floor?

while the mantle is liquid in parts, the part near the crust isn't afaik

and the differences in crust and mantle are significant, due to their density and the behavior of seismic waves as they travel through it
