Chiller installation question

i am hooking up my chiller today that i got from a fellow reefer who was downsizing, and i have a question, would it be better to have the chiller return water to the tank on 1 or 2 outlets

my overflow is on the far left back wall of the tank, and i was going to put the chiller outlet on the far right, to prevent the chiller from cycling too much, but i was wondering if yhat might cool the water too much on 1 side.

125 gal, with 2 korralia 1400's for circulation, mag 9.5 with 2 returns

i was thinking of running the chiller from the return pump, and cutting one of the returns off. any help on this would be greatly appreciated

I think you will be fine adding it into the return circuit from your main pump. I did something similar with mine, I have one common distribution line coming off of the pump. I then added the chiller into the last return line that is farthest from the overflow. My chiller will run for 10 minutes then be off for 30 or so before turning on again.

Thanks I went with 1 return and it looks like its working pretty good. So far the tank hasn't got above 79
Yet and the chiller had only come on 4 or 5 times for about 15 minutes each time and the lights have been on since 1

So i just woke up, and the chiller had turned itself on, the lights on the tank went off at 11:30 and the house temp is at 76 degrees, so just out of curiousity, i went and looked at my heater, the red light that says it is heating was on!!! i tried to turn the temp down a bit, and nothing, more, and still nothing, finally i went to turn it ALL the way down, and guess what, it wont shut off..

it seemed like my heater has failed in the ON position!!!!!

i didnt think that the chiller should run at night with the temp i set ( 80 degrees ) and it really suprized me when it had come on...

My chiller routinely comes on a couple times during the night even with the house temp at 72 degrees. I keep the reef at 78, but with all the pumps, powerheads, UV, etc, the temp can still rise above the 78 degree set point on the chiller, so I dont think you are seeing anything unusual except that your heater doesn't shut off :bigsmile:

i have taken the heater out completely, (flirting with disaster) and the past 2 nights it hasnt come on at all, the house has been about 76, and the tank has stayed at 78. the set point on the chiller is 80, and it has only come on 2 times today for about 40 min each time, once around 4, 2 hours after the MH lights came on, and again at 5:30, tomorrow i will be picking up another heater.
