Didn't there used to be a compatibility chart?

I'm getting an orchid dottyback and royal gramma this week. Any issues with those?

They will be a in a 10 gallon , hopefully they won't hurt each other during QT.

do either of you know which HACH unit besides the DR5000 and DR6000 is able to test for the CP and how user friendly are the units? I am debating about pulling the trigger and just buying a unit.

There is now some question as to just how accurately will a spectrophotometer measure Chloroquine in the water. @Christoph can explain better than I.

Hi everybody,

the issue is that the photometer "sees" everything that absorbs UV light of a certain wavelenght. So it can not distinguish between actual CP and (most likely ineffective) metabolites present in the water.

So i personally would not invest in a photometer.

Best,
Christoph

How much below 40mg can it fall? If cp slowly falls should we aim for the higher end of the range to start?

I wouldn't let it drop much below 40mg/gal. You can start @ 60mg/gal (over 2 doses), and that will give you some wiggle room.

Thanks Chris. Glad I didn't pull the trigger.

I hope it's ok to post this here. I am quarantining some fish from LA DD. The longnose came with ich or velvet on Thursday? I gave a freshwater dip & started CP the next day at 80 because of severity of infection. The 2 Kleini seem ok but have some discoloration. The longnose & 1 kleini are swimming nose down frequently. Could someone please help ID what they have & what else I should treat with?

I know it's said that there is a lot of wiggle room with CP dosage but for my experience, 60 mg per gallon made everyone a little sluggish and started losing their appetites after 10 days.
You may have needed to do your 80 mg per gallon over 2 doses but HumbleFish will chime in.

CP is the correct course of action if these fish have ich/velvet. (Looks like the latter to me.)

Is the discoloration on the C. kleini red at all??

Thank you for your help. Yes, one spot is red on kleini the other spots appear brown. The longnose spots are only white. They are eating well and have improved since Friday. I think that it may be two different parasites or?

I may have dosed too heavily but I was afraid to not be aggressive. Should I lower the dose of CP? They have been in that dose since Friday night. I did a 10 gallon wc last night with same dose in case of any ammonia. They are in a 30 gallon bare tank with hob filter just floss seeded with stability, heater & PVC pipe. I did give them some nori on a clip so green specs in water. This was a freshly set up quarantine tank. I bleach and dry my equipment after every use. I had planned for TTM and general cure with observation.

Now with velvet whole new approach. This is first time I have dealt with velvet. Should I add antibiotics? I have Furan 2, kanaplex, sulfaplex, general cure and metro on hand.

Thank you all very much for your help! @Humblefish @pecan2phat @Dr. Reef I read the 80 on first page of this section for very bad infections. I guess I should have not panicked and read more about correct dose. I will do a 50% wc now and drop dose down to 40, then tomorrow do another to get it down to 20. Is it safe to add an air stone or will it absorb the cp?

Hi all - is it normal to have algae grow in a tank with CP - I though it’s an algaecide. I never really had much algae grow in the QT until now [emoji848]
