Hi there, Can I get some help with ID of what is happening to my citron goby? He and a royal gramma joined the tank 3 weeks ago, he is the biggest with two clowns and a springer damsel, never saw any signs of aggression at all! All other fish seem just fine. My lfs thinks it could be uronema. It started with two white spots on both sides where his dorsal fin attaches, has now progressed to these sores He won’t eat, labored breathing, color change, lethargy.
Parameters
Nitrate 5
pH 8.1
Phos 0.13
Alk 8.1
Salinity 1.026
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Thanks for any help or recommendations! My tank is about 3 months old, I’m a total newbie! I did a freshwater dip on him and he is in a breeder box currently until I can get a QT tank set up.

This is not consistent with this type of fish or uronema and is a bacterial issue best treated in a separate tank using seachem neoplex with added aeration and like stemmed from scratches and becoming infected

Just my experience...i added a citroen gobie in a tank a couple weeks ago with two mellow clowns (and i also have a springerii damsel). The clowns both aggressed on the goby to the point where last Monday i brought him to an lfs for rehoming. When the goby was still, the clowns ignored him but when he swam in the quirky way they can, the clowns went after him. They tore his fins before i separate them, tried one more time to unit them and then decided it was not going to work. My belief is that the goby just is shaped like a clown and they were not having it. At a minimum i would get that fish out in a quarantine tank.

That’s Very interesting and good to know! My damsel tried to get territorial at the beginning with the royal but was totally fine with the goby…I just assumed because he was the biggest fish in the tank they all left him alone, doesn’t mean I could have missed things when I’m at work…. planning on getting him into QT tank tomorrow. Thanks for your input! I really appreciate it!

I've never seen Uronema on that species, but maybe?

It looks more like a bacterial disease stemming from some injury. I would treat it with a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic like Neoplex, in a treatment tank. However, the not eating, breathing fast and lethargy are all really bad signs. Antibiotics take a few days to work, and this fish may not have that long I'm afraid....

And clowns are known aggressive and can be from bite marks on the goby
