It is very quick to respond when I wave my hand over the light above it. Also, it is very large in size (4"-5") so hopefully that helps with its survival.Ive always been told that if you run your hand between the light and the clam that it should partially shut quickly. If theres not response that means its not healthy or stressed. Again im not mister clam. I have a few they have that response. I had a bigger one that was in my main reef a long time and it did not normally respond like that. I think maybe got used to all the shadow's from fish swimming over it all the time.

Yeah, mine moved around a lot until I put it on a piece of Pukani rock. After about a week, it started “melting” the rock around it and embedding itself into it. You can’t get Pukani anymore, but if you have some lying around or can get your hands on a piece — they love it!

It needs more light, as I'm not seeing any new growth on the shell. It could've moved because of flow or didn't like the position? Regardless, you'll need to provide more light. The fluted mantle is saying I need more light.I just recently added a clam to my nano office tank and planned on taking it home if and when it grows, read some of the posts. I’m curious in the behavior of this clam I bought it attached to a cradle which now it hopped off on its own. Mantel expansion is hugh is this a good sign or maybe looking for more light? I put it up higher and closer to the light and it little by little made its way back to the sand.
Updated picture looks like some new growth is starting to show, I picked it up again and added the AL prime 16hd reef light. But if I don’t make a mistake from reading this is a crocea, and they like to stay on the sand is that true?
